Travel Tips Wanted

I am flying out to California from Pennsylvania Wednesday with my husband for a friend's wedding. I haven't flown since 9/11. What all is different now? Security is tighter, I know but how exactly? I know ppl cannot take certain things on the plane, like nail clippers, nail files, pocket knives but is there anything else I should expect? Any advice or travel tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

Date: 8/12/2002 12:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 51635    you can't have spray cans in your carry on ... I would ware shoes that come off and on easily ... even though it probably won't take the whole time, get there 2hrs before your flight, it has taken me that long when I've been randomly selected to have everything scanned and gone through ... if you think they might take it away from you, OR you can't live with out it, leave it home or put it in a bag you will check ... Date: 8/12/2002 12:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14272    Thanks everybody. I didn't know about the spray cans. And I have doubts about tossing my (beloved, percision) tweezers in my purse. I better stick 'em in my suitcase.
Date: 8/12/2002 12:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 40881    Depending on what airport you go to they sometimes make you take your shoes off, they also have a computer search... that is when you're getting on the plane the computer picks a random handfull of people and they have to have EVERYTHING searched. That happend to me. Other then tighter security, and longer waits, it's still the same
Date: 8/12/2002 1:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 53748    if you are going to take gifts do not wrap them, use the gift bags because they will unrap the gift to make sure you don't have any hidden dangerous things in the boxes.
Date: 8/12/2002 1:18:00 PM  From Authorid: 53748    and be polite and curtious to the security and baggage screeners they are not there to make your trip more of a hassle they are there to make sure you are safe while in their airports and aircrafts. :-)
Date: 8/12/2002 3:09:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    be ready to wait, get everything x-rayed, don't take anything what could be sharp or considered a weapon, if you doubt it don't carry it on, they may want to see EVERYTHING so don't wrap anything... be comfy in comfy clothing and easy on and off shoes because you will be waiting for awhile!
Date: 8/12/2002 8:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 50193    I've never flown in my life, sorry I can't help you
Date: 8/13/2002 6:14:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14272    Thanks everybody. A lot of tips! I sure hope they DON'T have to go thru my suitcase. It's pack as tight as I could get it and besides, I'd die if a stranger was rumaging thru my skivies!
