i've never had any pets that wasn't in a cage before other than a dog but we kept it outside. anyways...i am in the middle of trying to convince my mother to get me a cat. i went on sites and it said it wasn't hard to raise a kitty. all you have to do is buy food and keep a litterbox and this and that like the doctor and stuff but it's hard to convince my parents. some questions they have are obviously "what if it craps and pees all over the place!?" and i see that you can keep your new cat locked in a room with a litter in it and try to make it get introduced to the litter and stuff. Then their next question is "what if we go on vacation and they can't come!?" there's kettles aren't there? wait..they dont' want to waste money on an animal because my parents hates animals..but they would do almost anything to make their children happy..soo...hmm now it's my question..what do you do if you go on vacation? Can you leave them at home with just a little extra food and water? and if they're short haired do they shed a lot? Yeah that's their questions..geez..ok someone please help me convince them :)

Date: 8/8/2002 4:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 52866    For if you go on vacation, you can hrie a pet sitter or buy this one thing where the water continually comes out of this jug-like thing so they always have enough water. You don't wanna give it milk because it's not good for them, but they like drinking milk, especially kittens. Usually, if not always, older cats are potty trained but kittens, especially ten weeks and younger, aren't. Good luck!

Date: 8/8/2002 5:11:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 8374    how? i don't understand it because i would think that you can raise them as a baby and they would know you better other than an adult cat

Date: 8/8/2002 6:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 51306    When I forst got my cat, we kept her in the bathroom with her litter box and her food and thats where we kept her till she learned to use the litter box, after that, move it to the place you want it, bring ur cat to it and let her know its there. Thne after that she will learn to use it, its not as bad as housetrainign a dog. Texas07Sweetie
Date: 8/8/2002 6:02:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    if your gone for a short trip *like the weekend* cats get along just fine with extra food and water.
Date: 8/8/2002 6:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 30621    Lauren, my short hair cat sheds more then my other two who have long hair. I just use the pet hair remover sticky tape everyday on my furniture. And when I leave for more than a day I get one of my son's friends who will do anything for a buck to check on them once a day. Cat's are so easy. The cleaning of the litter is the hard part. My cat's never had a problem using the litter box. But they never wanted to clean it afterwards.lol The kittens are really messy with the litter. They do tend to get it everywhere. But they get better a couple of weeks after use. Good luck.
Date: 8/8/2002 6:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 19460    cats are the easiest i think... you dont have to train them to do anything... you fill the litter box with litter and they just go. Its in their nature to do that i guess.
Date: 8/10/2002 9:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 13546    Cats are very easy to take care of! I know my little one sure does.. I mean he sleeps most of the time. *rolls eyes* and eats the rest of the time he is up.. lol.. when we go away on vacation our neighbor drops in twice a day to take care of my cat and family dog. I would NOT reccomend if you do go on vacation to leave a bit of food and water out.. if you can, put it in a kennal. I have a short haired, and he doesn't shed that much, but you should brush it still!
