How do you feel about cd burning/song downloading??................GrooveeMe93

You know, I look at my dad's cd collection all the time and think "wow, he paid for all these cd's and all those artists benefited from it." But then I take a look at mine, I have a pretty good collection of cd's but I got a cd burner last week, and all of a sudden I don't have the booklets you get with your cd's because I've been burning them. I have mixed feelings about this, I mean there are the artists that I feel have too much money anyway, but they are hard working people, and someday I'm going to be a hard working musician, but there is only so much money one person needs. Then on the other side, there are the bands that I just love, and would never burn their cd, they will always have my 100% support, FOREVER!!!

Downloading songs....I would rather buy the cd, taht's for sure, BUT I have bought some albums and been very disapointed with teh rest of the songs on the album. So that can be pretty disappointing when you get all excited thinking "OMG I'm sure I'll get my $20's worth out of this cd, I know there will be more than just one good song!" And it turns out there really only is one good song. I really do feel for the artists that are like "Where are the profits? I just wanna get rewarded for my work." And yeah, not too long from now that's gonna be me, I know it will me, then again, b/c of downloading songs I've bought a few cd's that I might not have unless I heard a few other songs from it, thank you Kazaa, lol.

DEBATE: Are you against or for cd burning? AND Are you against or for song downloading?

Date: 7/30/2002 4:27:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21499    Well taht was simple, lol @ Godfather
Date: 7/30/2002 4:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 33573    I am for it because we have a cd burner in our computer drive so I have had it since we bought the computer. I have about 16 burned cds....lots of songs! I like it:-) Maybe if cds weren't so much money I would actually go out and buy some.
Date: 7/30/2002 4:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 10722    They're far overpriced anyway. I never buy CD's, I burn ALL of mine. blank cd's are way cheaper plus you can fit more songs on them. =)
Date: 7/30/2002 4:37:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21499    Yeah I know, it's like rebeling against the record companies by burning cds, lol. Yeah I think that even if they were closer to $15, i would buy more, but GRR, having to blow one babysitting check after spending 9 hours with a little hellian, I don't know if a cd is worth it, so GO CD BURNERS! LoL anyway.....*looks around to make sure not too many people saw that*
Date: 7/30/2002 4:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 10722    I got a pack of 25 blank CD's (700MB CD-R's) for about 9 or 10 bucks. Yet one music CD ranges from 15-17 dollars?.. and look at all the songs and albums you could fit on 25. I'm getting a bargain deal.. =)
Date: 7/30/2002 4:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 53360    Well, im pretty much like you, if i am a die hard fan, i will buy the cd, but if i just want one song and not the whole album, i will burn it kOzzmic_K
Date: 7/30/2002 5:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 47865    I'm against it. I vaguely know the singer of an English Indie band and the last time I saw them live he said to me that he was thinking of re-forming his earlier (and much more sucessful band) because of the poor sales of his latest band. As he put it with a shrug of his shoulders he still had a mortgage to pay, and that really bought home to me the bottom line of song stealing. Best wishes
Date: 7/30/2002 5:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 54878    it would be nice if we could pay the artist directly, eliminating the middle man, now the middle man is the computer -- just send some money directly to the artist sb12
Date: 7/30/2002 5:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 53052    i'm totally for it!!.. it's cheaper... you get to hear people and cds before you buy them and if you want to buy them you can.. IF CDS cost LESS i may buy them more often.. but of course they don't.. the cd what they sell you they may maybe 50 cents for that cd and then it's jus tmark up after mark up after mark up... if cds were around 10 bux it would be different
Date: 7/30/2002 5:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    I can'tafford to buy the CDs and many are not even available anymore like stuff from the early 70's and 60's I have looked and looked and online was the only place I could find it you can't purchase what s not for sale and much of it I had purchased years ago and either wore out or it was stolen or destroyed by my X
Date: 7/30/2002 5:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 24732    I burn my own cd's all the time. Plus I make better cover art that is on the cd's in the store. Also I'm not sure where I would find the music I listen to either? There aren't very many places to buy music where I live. I finally saw a Dropkick Murphy's cd in the store 1 day. RIght now I'm in the process of making cd with The Misfits on it. I make my own "greatest hits" cd's LOL
Date: 7/30/2002 6:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 43200    Well i have to admite, that ever since I've gotten KaZaA, that's all i've been doing, is downloading songs.. Ever since my brother got a cd burner, i've gotten so many burnt cd's so i'm not against burning cd's or downloading
Date: 7/30/2002 7:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 59673    i like cd burings its fun
Date: 7/30/2002 9:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 58081    Yeah, If it's a real favourite band of mine I'll usually buy the original because I know that all of the songs will appeal to me. I never downloaded whole cd's but I like downloading music off the net and making my own cd's, because I love creating my own mixes and I get to hear music that I probably would have never had the chance to hear.
Date: 7/30/2002 9:58:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21499    Yeah I understand that Ash, there are some local bands that I can't imagine burning their cd, ya know? They are just a baby band, and they need my full support! Taht's when I am against it!
Date: 7/30/2002 10:00:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21499    LoL @ sb12, I'll do that right away! :-P
Date: 7/30/2002 10:01:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21499    I'm not sure if I could send a $20 bill directly to the place where part of Kurt Cobain's ashes are (or the earn at least) I don't think the buddhist ppl would like that too much, lol maybe they would though! who knows!
Date: 7/30/2002 10:03:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21499    Yeah I would much rather hand over a 10 dollar bill than a 20 dollar bill!!!
Date: 7/30/2002 10:05:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21499    Wow Mrs.Strider, not even pawn shops? Have you tried Amazon.com yet??
Date: 7/30/2002 10:06:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21499    LoL @ Alien me too!!! I do love mixes, and 'Annoying songs that get stuck in your head' mixes, and pretty much anything I can think of !! :-D I have never seen the Ataris in any store, so I just burn their songs!! :-D i love that band!!! :-D
Date: 7/30/2002 10:06:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21499    LoL @ Alien me too!!! Date: 7/30/2002 10:07:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21499    OMG @ Blue Fairy, me too!!! I can't stop downloading!! AAAHHH!!! LoL
Date: 7/30/2002 10:09:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 21499    The only reason I listen to the radio anymore is because I want more songs to download, and that it's pretty much my only source of the outside world, well and MTV, but they don't play enough videos any more for me to rely on that as my music source!
Date: 7/31/2002 12:33:00 AM  From Authorid: 54987    I'm for it too. I wouldn't have got half the stuff if I couldn't download. I don't download all of an album just the ones I really like. Yeah they are over-priced. I do buy occasionally though so I'm not a complete pranny... Coolade
Date: 7/31/2002 1:18:00 AM  From Authorid: 60162    I feel guilty but I do it. Bands I really love I go out and buy the real thing as I want the real stuff for my collection but bands I like but dont care all that much about. I burn them or download them. I dont agree with selling them at all though. That is really wrong, not to mention illegal. I burn them for my own personal use only.
Date: 7/31/2002 1:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 22080    im neutral its not the record labels that charge the bookoo bucks for the cds its the stores trying to get a profit imo artist shouldnt care if there REALLY into the music for the love of it they wouldnt care wether or not there losing pennies
Date: 7/31/2002 9:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 42104    nope not at all. First off what's the difference between burning a cd and making a tape. Downloading a song... as far as I know the only musicians that have a problem with downloading the songs are the rich ones. I have yet to hear of say the aquabats complaining about people burning their music. Most "good" musicians are in it for the fun and joy of making music, not making the money. For instance, Iwhen I bought my Mac, yes I did say MAC. it came with at least 50 songs already loaded on it. I'm very grateful because I found out about a musician where I probably never would have heard of her before. I think it's ok. sorry for rambling
Date: 7/31/2002 12:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 63026    I think its ok, i think the artists should be proud were burning their songs....And u find alot of old songs u may not find on cds
Date: 8/2/2002 6:33:00 AM  From Authorid: 52490    Typically, its not the artists who care, its the record labels because the artists dont make much money from their record sales. Records are just a marketing tool. Artists make most of their money from touring. That being said, I also use Kazaa and I burn my own cds, but like others if I really like the band/artist, I usually buy the real thing. BTW has anyone heard about Pressplay or whatever, its this Kazaa/Morpheus type program but you have to pay like 18$ a month for it, and they only have like 100,000 songs. On top of that, they restrict the burning of songs to ten a month...ARE THEY CRAZY??? You can fit double that on a cd! Okay, I guess I'm done. -- HeArTbRoKeN187
Date: 8/2/2002 10:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 60792    I saw something like this on television. they were talking about how no one is buying as many CDs as they used to and that the artists aren't getting much money and in the future there will be no money for new artists and there will be no music. Well back in the day when artists got a couple hundred bucks per show well you didn't hear them complaining. I think that if your gonna be a singer then you shouldn't do it for the money. Music helps people get though life and this should give the artists all the reward they need. Why should they get millions of dollars with a voice that thousands of people who aren't famous have also. Now there are some singers that I think have a great voice that not everyone has like Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Charlotte Church, and Mariah Carey. And to top it off some CD prices are outrageous. So my answer to the topic of this debate is yes I favor CD burning.
