The "ankh" has a long history going back to Egyptian times. It is one of the most familiar of Egyptian hieroglyphs. It was the sign for life and fertility. Many statues of the Pharaoh have him holding an "ankh." It is carried in the hands of many Egyptian deities. It was often produced in solid form and worn as jewelry. The ankh was popular throughout Egyptian history and due to its cruciform shape remained so into the Coptic period. The Coptic Christian church adopted the ankh as a symbol of the cross (since the cross gives life to believers). In Christian iconography it is called the crux ansata, the handled or "eyed" cross. |

The ahnk is a symbol of life. My personal opinion is that this was your mother's bad attempt to scare you, and keep you away from anything but christianity.
Saying that the ahnk was choking her and made her friend sick is unrealisitc and desperate.
Perhaps she was wearing it to tightly and it cut of circulation to her brain/ |

I have an Ankh, and I am just fine.....I do not choke, or get sick from it. When you get sick, you get sick. That's all there is to it. She was probably wearing it too tight. That has never happened to me. I studied Egypt in school. The Ankh symbolizes birth, life, and the after-life. There is no evil about that. I agree with Space-Born. Your mom may be trying to keep you away from all religions other than Christianity. Manipulation, that's what it is. But don't take my word for it. Blessed be! *Jewel Fernandez* |

its stupid you all assuming that all ankhs choke you, its like saying that a possessed book means all books are possessed. I meant that those two ankhs were evil and probably had somekind of evil done to them. my mother is not manipulative, i believe her cos she would know as she is a christian priest |

An ankh may not be inherently evil, but it does trace it's roots back to Egypt and I personally don't feel it should be worn by Christians. If you're mom felt it was bad, then yes take it off by all means. But I think evil lies elsewhere. How exactly is your mom a priest? Just curious. |

Anhks evil, maybe. But they are supposed to be a symbol of eternal life, and if your mom was choking, maybe they weren't doing their job, LOL. I am glad that your mom and her friend are OK. |

what do you mean 'how did my mum become a priest'? women priests are ordained in australia and 'priest' is a unisex name so it does not just serve for male priests. |
