Date: 7/17/2002 8:22:00 PM From Authorid: 55536 If you are giving a victim Impact Statement have it written down. If you show feelings that is OK. Never mind him. The court needs to know how badly you were hurt. If you pretend it doesn't bother you then they will think it wasn't that bad. And it was. I took my father to court when I was twelve. At twelve I didn't have to say much but the fear was the hardest - to sit there in front of him. I didn't look at him. Some people find strength in looking at them That depends on what feels right for you. But no matter what take something with you to help you feel connected to yourself. You don't need to be spacing out and going numb. It often helps if it is something cold like a piece of metal - just small that would fit in your hand - or a small smooth polished stone in your favorite color. Have a friend or support person with you. Most of all this is about YOU taking care of yourself. Good Luck and I hope they lock him up forever - Lady Lee |
