How prejudice are you?

Many religions and even different Christian denominations are preudiced (for lack of a better word) against other religions and other christian denominations. Some people will force thir own religion down another's throat, and then kill that person when they don't accept their own religion. But then others (like me) will just leave well enough alone and take the attitude of "as long as they don't try to totally convert me, then I'm cool and will leave them alone." How do you act when put in a room with someone of another religion or denomination? Or, to put it buntly, just how prejudice are you towards someone of another religion or denomination? ~The Mystery~

Date: 7/17/2002 8:47:00 AM  From Authorid: 20069    i don't even like to call myself a christian sometimes, (not because of the beliefs) but because I feel totally embarassed by many christians who force their religion on others or don't like others because of religion. so I of all people try to be so open minded but all of us are prejudice in some ways. but hopefully people will realize it and try to stop it some day..maybe that will solve some problems
Date: 7/17/2002 9:09:00 AM  From Authorid: 46068    good question, not really an easy answer.. Not even to explain my own feelings on the issue... I am a christian, but am not in agreeance with a great deal of religious practice and although not in agreeance I accept it as it is what they believe.. I have stopped attending service for the most part, which actually I would like to attend again soon... I had an interesting experience happen yesterday when two men came to the door to whhoooo and a mailing I recieved and now this question... Sorry, but wow!!! O.k. I've totally lost my train of thought but quick answer I'm not prejudiced, not even against non christian religions just in right and wrong... Take care,
Date: 7/17/2002 9:14:00 AM  From Authorid: 57452    ~I am not prejudice. I will say I am uncomfortable. One reason of feeling that way may be perhaps because I do not understand very well and have not be raised in much of a *mixing bowl* environment, so to speak. Although, I have taken the time to research different religions and people...Hmm...living in VA/DC and coming from the South, it was and still is a major adjustment in my life. VA/DC is a huge *mixing bowl* of different people and religions. Not only that, there are three or four more times the people here VA/DC then in some or most La cities..or TX cities..MS..AL..etc. I *loathe* the 'over- crowding' people basically living on top of each other..and I really don't like the over crowding on jobs either. I have never in my life lived in a place with so many people in such a semi-small area, and never before have I ever had to *fight* to get a job. Not literealy..*she laughs* I have always..I mean !always! managed to be able to get a job within a week if not a day or two...here VA/DC it is nearly impossible. I did get a bit off track....It is extremely hard to adjust, *too many* people and a unique *mix* that I am not use to ...but I am learning very slowly. *wink*

P.S. This is the first place in my life that I have ever lived where when one goes to the grocery store they are *completely out* of what you need..this is an every week thing...that just amazes me! *she laughs*

Date: 7/17/2002 9:21:00 AM  From Authorid: 53748    I have nothing against any denomination but I do hate it when people tell me that my denomination is a false religion or that our religious leader is the anticrist then give me all of this bull that they think of as facts.
Date: 7/17/2002 10:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 57290    I think everyone is intitle to there own opion, I just thek we need to have an open mind and just listen to what people have to say.

Date: 7/17/2002 2:29:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 58022    Ms. HollowLuna, I've had totally the opposite expiriance from you. I was born in Atlanta and lived there 10 years and was totally used to and loved the *mixing bowl* environment. Because of that, now I love being around people and love big cities where no matter where you go, there is always something happening. But then about 3 years ago, my parents decided that living in a small (pop. 2000) town in the Appalachain Mountains would be great (I have NO idea why-in my opinion, the only thing wrong with Atlanta was the smog). So know we live about 1hr 20 min North of Atlanta in a tiny tiny town with only one middle school, one high school, 3 elementary schools, and get this, NO MALLS. I absolutely hate it. But one thing here is that almost everyone is Babtist (no offense to any Babtists here) and they are all extremely prejudiced. I am not a Babtist (I'm an Orthodox Christian), and it is rather tough talking to the Babtists when they ask me about my religon because they will basically say "oh what you are telling me makes absolutely no sense. You have a really wierd religion." And then they practically force me to come to their Sunday School, etc and try to convert me. I never had this problem in Atlanta. Orhtodox is practically the excact opposite from any Protastant religions (it's closest thing is Roman Catholic) and so it is rather tough.

P.S. No offense to any Baptists here for that

Date: 7/17/2002 6:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 54111    So how prejudice are you? To quote you So Baptist(true spelling)are prejudice, because they try to convert you. Um excuse me, that is prejudice remark. You convert on your own free will, so you telling me the baptist put a gun to your head and made you come to Sunday School? You have a lot of learning to do. You are the wierd one. THINK ABOUT IT. and yes i took offense.
Date: 7/17/2002 8:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 54987    I fight against intolerance. However, in the process I become intolerant myself. I am learning but it's hard when you see what you think is wrong. I need to stand back and not get emotionally involved. Most people though don't see this in themselves. I must learn to be tolerant of myself... Coolade
Date: 7/18/2002 8:15:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 58022    54111,I was implying that when the Baptists in my town over and over again try to press their own ideas into my head when I have already politely asked them to leave me alone,it is rather aggravating. I respect what they are doing by witnissing, but when someone has to repeatedly ask them to leave them alone, then I think they are taking it too far. I have my own reigion and my own beliefs, and I am very open to hearing about others, but there is a time when I don't want another person, who's beliefs are almost the totall oposite of mine, to try to convert me even after I have asked them to leave me alone. And I was not talking about Baptists all of the world as a whole. In the Appalachian Mountains, the majority of the people are Baptists, and while there are some who will leave you alone, others in my town are just not that open to people who have different beliefs.

Date: 8/6/2002 5:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 61297    I feel that it is wrong to force one's religion onto another person. Christians, when doing this, seem to forget the Golden Rule. I am Christian, and I wouldn't want to have someone force me to convert to Islam or be killed. I feel that the same principle should be applied in reverse as well. As for having friends of different denominations or religions, I have no problem with that at all.
Date: 10/22/2002 7:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 20296    I have my own beliefs. I do not try and change or judge (or try not to anyways) others. I will share my beliefs with others if they ask, but I do not try and belittle them if they do not agree. I expect the same respect good story!
Date: 10/23/2002 1:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 19586    I treat others the way I wish to be treated.
Date: 10/23/2002 1:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 50864    Let me put it this way I am a Lutheran in HS my best female freind was Baptist my closest male friend was a gay Wiccan, Also in our group were Catholic twins a diaabled Episcopalian and a Jewish male We we all friends because we liked each other and never made religion an issue
