music has nothing to do with it...i mean for me and most people its to get out the things you already feel....if i'm angry i'm gonna listen to papa roach or staind, people just want someone else to blame because the can't accept its their fault. i think the violence is based on two things--1. the way they are treated. 2. the way their mind tells them to respond. most of these kids are just messed up---Dark Fire ![]() |
Date: 6/29/2002 9:23:00 AM From Authorid: 56869 I think this is total crap i think it is just an excuse for peoples actions and i dont think MANSON is responsible for colimbine at all and you cant just blame everything on music a lot of other things could do it to like movies and TV and stuff like that really all i do is listen to music and i dosent effect me like that and i listen to music like MANSON and SLIPKNOT ect... thats just my opinon........NOT BY CHOICE |

But blaming music is a great cop-out from admitting that maybe you weren't paying as much attention as you should have been as a parent. If you bring your children up knowing right from wrong then it doesn't matter WHAT they listen to...Gallytuck. ![]() |

Music can definitely "psych" people up, but as for actually convincing someone to do something...I dunno. I feel that you have to be pretty feeble-minded to let a song dictate your actions...Gallytuck. ![]() |

You know, people will always say that the music the youth listen to today corrupts them. Did you know that at the time of Beethoven and Mozart many thought their music common and a bad influence? Did you know that the waltz was once thought to be indecent? That jazz in the '20s was reviled by the older and more staid members of the population? That people used to think that the Rock and Roll of Elvis and the early Beatles was corrupting youths minds and morals? Things never change. Here is something interesting I've noticed though. After the '60s faded into oblivion and the flower children were in their late 30s you rarely if ever saw a hippie. I was a teenager in the 80s at the height of the punk thing. But you know what? I don't know ANY 30 or 40 something that wears a safety pin in their nose or superglues their hair into a big, blue mohawk. Many kids today wear goth makeup or some other form of "extreme" dress. So what? If you are a student of the history of human nature you will know two things. 1. Regardless of how "extreme" they seem to be, it's still just a uniform. Most of their friends look the same. 2. They will all grow out of it. People need to lighten up. ![]() |

Well, music, TV, and all other forms of media do influence our actions, just not to the extent that it's often blamed. Manson is not the reason those kids shot people, niether is the game DOOM, those kids were psychologically unbalanced and emotionally repressed. ![]() |

well when you go to church and sing songs it's uplifting you can't deny that when you listen to a good song it does seem meaningful i think it sets an attitude for impressionable kids it's psychological if they do other things like sports than they probably don't do bad things but usually if there lacks a role model it's easier to think about the music more than normal but it does influence our attitudes just like movies do |

Look, if you don't think music affects kids, you are in a dream world. I used to think NO IT DOESN'T thats stupid, but now I have changed my mind. It may not effect the minds of mentally stable kids but what about the UNSTABLE kids who listen to this stuff? I am not talking about Marilyn Manson or mellow stuff like that. I am talking about the angry hate filled music that some people DO listen to... ![]() |

Hey, they thought Linkin Park cuased Columbine, you know, In the End? But hey, Eminem says it right "They say music can alter moods and talk to you. Well can it load a gun for you and cock it too? Well if it can, then the next time you assualt a dude, tell the judge it was my fualt, and I'll get sued." #12 Eminem Show- I love it! ![]() |
Date: 6/29/2002 3:49:00 PM From Authorid: 56272 It makes me soo mad when people blame music for world problems... i think i could understand a little bit that movies may cause some problems cause people sommetimes try and act out scenes from movies, but not music.. ABUBU |
Date: 6/29/2002 7:55:00 PM From Authorid: 56643 Kids act the way they do because of the exaples set for them these days (the overly corrupt system of govenment, parents, schools, and everyday life) Those of you who are trying to use music as a scapegoat are doing a poor job of shifting the blame. Music has nothing to do with it. No offense. THEpenOFmanyWORDS |

i agree with you, i dont think that music "tells" kids what to do. i think it helps them get through different things in their life. i listen to manson and nin and other bands that people would say i shoudnt listen to because it will "screw me up" or whatever. and for those who think that i want to tell them that i'm actually a pretty good kid/person. i dont do terrible in school, i dont get in fights or plan on killing people... i have a hard enough time lying to my dad! i dont think its right that people blame musicians and movies and such on what someone else does. like manson said, its just teaching the kid that its ok to be "bad" because someone else will get the blame. i could go on and on about this, but i'll stop here. ![]() |

music is more thereputic than actually making someone do something, i get mad and i listen to slipknot, manson, cradle of filth, rammstein, korn and mushroomhead they are very thereputic alot of the music by slipknot, manson korn connect with the younger crowd because they had screwed up lives and know what to put into lyrics i dont think music causes anyone to do anything i think its the brats that pick on the kids that cause it ![]() |
