Can you figure this out??

I got this question from the MINDTRAP game. I love these... Okay, here it goes.

Shadow had parked his car under a tree and was heading toward the suspect's house when a vicious dog lunged at him. Luckily for Shadow he was just beyond the dog's reach. Since the suspect wasn't home, Shadow decided to leave, but he had a slight problem. The dog, straining at the end of his chain, was following Shadow's every move. With the chain attached to the tree, the dog had access to both car doors. How could Shadow get into his car without the dog being able to reach him??

Okay, think hard, wrack your brain!!

Date: 6/26/2002 10:56:00 PM  From Authorid: 50434    Okay if the dog had access to both doors how the heck did he get out of the car in the first place?
Date: 6/26/2002 10:57:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14752    Crawling thru the trunk is incorrect. I'm assuming that the dog did not notice him until he was already out.
Date: 6/26/2002 10:57:00 PM  From Authorid: 3538    Shadow never got out of car?
Date: 6/26/2002 10:58:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14752    HINT: think in circles
Date: 6/26/2002 10:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 50434    You can assume the Dog didnt notice him getting out, BUT i highly doubt that. The dog would have notice him right from the beginning. Especially if he was tied to the same tree shadow parked under!
Date: 6/26/2002 10:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 51744    jump on the car and go through the sun roof...LOL or he could run around the tree and tie the dog around the tree. or since he is a shadow he can walk where there is no light...
Date: 6/26/2002 10:59:00 PM  From Authorid: 50434    Cirlces huh...unless he got the dog to keep going aroudn the tree untill the chain was totally wrapped around it.
Date: 6/26/2002 10:59:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14752    Okay, whatever, but that's not the matter in question.
Date: 6/26/2002 11:00:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14752    Giggler!!! One of your answers is correct. Look at my hint...
Date: 6/26/2002 11:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 50193    Walk in circles, having the dog follow his every move, thus making the dog wrap its chain around the tree and shorten it's reach.
Date: 6/26/2002 11:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 22433    er, make the dog run in circles around the tree, making the chain shorter
Date: 6/26/2002 11:00:00 PM  From Authorid: 22433    ohhh he made the dog run around the post his chain is tied to in order to shorten his chain?
Date: 6/26/2002 11:02:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14752    Yayy!!! You guys are good. I guess Giggler and ^H^ get to split the prize. VG, you get the consolation prize since they got it first. And the prize is.....um....the satisfaction of being right?
Date: 6/26/2002 11:04:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14752    way to go 50434. Way to let go of your preconceptions. They can block your thinking y'know.

Date: 6/26/2002 11:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 50193    Sounds like a fair consolation prize to me
Date: 6/26/2002 11:04:00 PM  From Authorid: 51744    LOL...I guess I can deal with that... :0)
Date: 6/26/2002 11:06:00 PM  From Authorid: 22433    woohoo! awww i gotta shareeee??? i don't wanna share! it's mine! *snatches prize from giggler*. hehehe good game everyone!
Date: 6/26/2002 11:07:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 14752    LOL @ ^H^..
Date: 6/26/2002 11:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 51744    **Goes and bonks H on the head and runs away with the prize** now u got to catch me...hehehe
Date: 6/26/2002 11:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 22433    hey! that was mine! stealer! (hey, what was the prize, anyway? is it worth chasing giggler for it?? lol
Date: 6/27/2002 1:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 56254    What I don't understand is why Shadow didn't just move the car to a different parking spot in the first place. Would have solved the problem without all the aggravation haha.
Date: 6/27/2002 7:39:00 AM  From Authorid: 56572    he could go round and round the tree and the dog would follow him and his chain would shorten so he could get to his car.
Date: 6/27/2002 9:35:00 AM  From Authorid: 14197    I guessed it but thought i was wrong beacuase if its a chain it would probably just turn with the dog. i dunno
