I closed my heart to love

I closed my heart to love,
And tried to forget yesterday,
But it kept finding its way back to me.
The pain in my heart forever did stay.

I closed my eyes tightly,
And tried to see tomorrow.
But I could not see beyond today.
I could not believe with a heart only filled with sorrow.

I closed my mind to all evil,
And tried to find the good.
But it was lost amoung the sadness.
Alone, I stood.

The kind words of a friend,
Echoed sweetly in my mind.
Even though they filled the holes in my heart,
A bittersweetness in them I did find.

I could not see the light,
To which this angel tried to make me see.
I could not find the Happiness,
That would come to set me free.

I could not love the one I longed to hold,
And I could not forgive the one I once loved.
Would I forever dance alone in this darkness,
Or would I ever dance blissfully within the stars above?

But then I opened my heart to love,
And now I try to believe in today.
I try to stand strong,
And win all the battles headed my way.

I open my eyes widely,
I look out and see what lies ahead.
Tomorrow shines bright,
Yesterday now lies dead.

I open my mind to all goodness,
And I found the happiness that will set me free.
I still stand alone,
But alone I will never be.
