Planned Parenthood Defense

Earlier today, I read a story about how planned parenthood could hurt your children. This infuriated me because the person whom wrote this abomination wasn't giving you accurate information. First of all, the group of people who are saying this, are a "pro-life" group. Some of these extremists go to far out lengths to make planned parenthood look bad. In fact, there used to be a website that would say "kill these people" and would have pics of planned parenthood workers on it. Now that they were sued, the website is still up, but they cant tell people to kill the people in the pictures. The author of that ridiculous story said that if a teenage girl said that she got pregnant from a 22 year old man that planned parenthood wouldn't tell her parents or anyone else. That part is true, because many states have what is refered to as a confidentiality policy. This makes the teenager feel more trusting and comfortable. That way, she can at least get help and not be afraid. However, the author also said that planned parenthood would encourage the girl to keep it a secret. This is NOT true! They do nothing of the sort! Planned parenthood gives people the help they need. Would it be better for that teenager to never seek help? I just wanted to make sure that all of you know that Planned Parenthood is a non-profit organization that only works to help people who need it. This is why the government gives them funding.Planned Parenthood has helped a lot of people and I wont just stand back and let people spread lies about it!

Date: 6/18/2002 11:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 7830    Planned Parenthood has helped me out before, I needed a doctor's checkup and they were willing to take me in same day and I only had to pay what I could afford. It's a wonderful organization.
Date: 6/18/2002 11:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 27046    Many pro-lifers beat on the fact that you can obtain a safe LEGAL abortion at a planned parenthood clinic and that makes them evil and is a reason that they should be wiped out. What many of them seem to overlook is the fact that planned parenthood also provides medical check-ups, birth control, std and aids testing along with prenatal care. They also seem to forget the fact that you can obtain an abortion at just about any OBGYN/Gynocological office in the United States and that abortions are not just soley preformed by planned parenthood. They don't seem to understand that planned parenthood offers low cost medical attention that can be afforded by ALL income levels so that those in a lower income ratio can still obtain decent medical care regardless of what they are able to afford. They also don't realize that many of those that do have private insurance STILL use planned parenthood as their preferred choice of care in that medical area, despite the fact that they could go elsewhere. It called seeing what you want to see and turning a blind eye to those things that you should also be seeing...
Date: 6/19/2002 12:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 32806    Interesting that a "pro-life" group will defend the rights of a dividing cell structure and on the other hand encourage their followers to kill a fully formed human being.
Date: 6/19/2002 12:41:00 AM  From Authorid: 37900    Extremist pro-life groups who advocate anyone's death are repugnant to those with moral sensitivity. My problem with Planned Parenthood stems from their apparent position on teenage pregnancy. Officially, the organization recognizes teenage pregnancy as a problem, yet it does not strongly support abstinence, the only guaranteed solution. Instead, it promotes less efficient solutions and assumes that teens will have sex irresponsibly. I don't think that Federal dollars should be dispensed to organizations that are not truly interested in solving the problems they claim to be concerned about.
Date: 6/19/2002 1:04:00 AM  From Authorid: 50435    Alfrowt, it's not that they don't support abstinence, it's that they have a foothold onto the mountain called reality, the same mountain that these extremist pro-lifers can't seem to even locate on a map. Extremist pro-lifers are no different than the Taliban or radical PLO members. They believe in violence as a means to an end. When you start hunting people down it could be taken as a sign that you've gone to far. Take care and we can talk about this 'til we're all blue in the face...Gallytuck. P.S. Has that ever happened? Does anyone actually know someone who talked so much that they went blue in the face? LOL

Date: 6/19/2002 2:06:00 AM  From Authorid: 37900    Thanks for your reply, Gallytuck. I agree with your assessment of extremist pro-lifers. Support of abstinence is not a far-fetched idea, unless one believes that people cannot control themselves and should not be held accountable for their actions. I don't remember seeing any evidence that Planned Parenthood gives anything but lip service to the practice of abstinence; their funds and energy are devoted to more financially profitable ends.
Date: 6/19/2002 6:55:00 AM  From Authorid: 53689    They STONGLY support abstinence. But they do know that no matter how strongly they encourage it the teenager is going to do what they want. So, instead of pretending that all their patients actually listen to them, they make sure that the teenager is protected if they decide to have sex. TarheelGirl
Date: 6/19/2002 9:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 36967    Plan Parenthood, should not even be in schools. I have alot of problems with plan parenthood.
Date: 6/19/2002 10:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 37900    Thanks for your response, TarheelGirl. I checked Planned Parenthood's website (http://www.ippf.org/) and did not find strong support for abstinence. Instead, I found vague references to "other" methods of addressing the problem of teenage pregnancy. IMO, their position clearly favors contraceptives and abortions. If I have missed something, please let me know.
Date: 6/22/2002 9:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 20497    life is all about how we see things, a lie to you is truth to me and vica versa......... so scream til your blue in the face.......... cause my mind wont be changed........... I know of several chain organizations that do support planned parenthood....... not just government....... yep, its in my news letter..........wanna see it?? LOL
