you know what annoys me about the cigarette laws? When I worked as a cashier, the district manager made it our policy that we had to card EVERYONE every single time they came in the store. keep in mind this was in a small town and we had a lot of regulars that came in every day. They would get SO mad if she was there and we had to ask to see thier ID... it was stupid on her part because we all knew pretty much everyone that came in the store, but she INSISTED we ask to see it. The customers were NOT happy... |

Thanks so much for posting that! I know EXACTLY how you feel. I have been a cashier for 4 years (two different grocery stores and a gas station), and have put up with countless rude people. Not to long ago I had this one customer ask for a pack of smokes (legal age is 19, we gotta ask for ID if they look under 25), and I swear he didn't look older than 16 or 17. So after giving me a dirty look, he went out to his car and got it, then on his way out, he was like, "I don't think i'd be driving a $45,000 car if i was underage", I just said, "well, have a good day!". It's like, GEEZ! lol (he turned out to be like, 24) |

That is a bit much, having to ask everytime. Some of the regular customers got upset when I IDed them when I first started but most understood that I was new. |

H, His excuse would not work in this town, I have seen some of the high school kids here that drive expensive cars. One kid drives a Jag and is only 17. This is a rich town. It is also a college town with lots of rich college kids who come in and treat me like a peon. But they don't get to me too much b/c I know I have more intellegence and common sense than the majority of these kids. I just made the mistake of not going to college after high school. But I will be going in the Spring of 2003! TarHeelGirl |

Awesome post! Im a cashier and I always try to be cheery. Why not? Id rather try to be happy rather than being miserable. Most people are wonderful, but once you get that jerk, you kind of focus on that a little more than what we should. What I cant stand is going to a store and getting rude service. Whats up with that? Oh well, I always smile and talk to the workers, cause I know what its like. Have a good one! |

Good post I am not a cashier but I am nice to every cashier I meet, even those who ARE having a bad day. One day, in WAlmart, there was a lady who was giving the cashier HECK over the least little things, I felt sorry for the cashier who HAD to keep smiling, so when my turn came, I was XTRA nice to her, and before I left, she thanked me... It does not cost one dime to be NICE to people.. ya know? I know cashiers are paid to be nice, but we customers dont have to pay extra to be nice, nor do we get a discount for being rude.. Great post.. Thanks for sharing.. |

Thanks for the reply Gail! Your right. It really doesn't cost anything to be nice. In fact you stand to gain from it. *BIG HUGS* (for everyone) TarHeelGirl |

This is a good post. I am now a cashier and let me tell you... some people are just plain rude and now matter how much they hurt you all you can do is smile and take it and it hurts. I try very hard to be nice and friendly to everyone and I have come into contact with a lot of people who just don't care and don't see a real person at the register. But then there are good customers who make your day. I like this post and expecially the alcohol and cigarettes because in my store you have to look over 40 and some people don't handle being id very even though it can cost me my job, a fine, and being arrested. Thanks for posting! |

Sorry for all the typos but I think it was clear :P its late here... lol and also, I once got a customer who cursed a storm up at me over something I couldn't even control and that was one of the worst nights in my life... also had things thrown at me... I used to work in a pharmacy... lol warning: if you want to work in the pharmacy it is not for the sensitive! |
