I have heard some say (like my grandparents) how they never had welfare and people got off their rear ends and worked for a living. They were different times back then, neighbors were willing to feed you and your kids if you couldn't make ends meet. You could use your land to make some extra money and not have to make it into a full time job. I don't think that we should get rid of it but there does need to be tighter reform and more benefits like schooling and daycare so parents can get some training and get off of it so they don't live on it the rest of their lives. |

Exactly why there have been recent reforms to limit how long you can use welfare (but this is not the only program in existance.) |

All welfare programs should be eliminated. It is a subsidy for sloth and vice. Hard working taxpayers engaged in legitimate work are having to pay taxes to support the lazy and those engaged in black market activities. Al |

And what evidence do you hvae that it is hampering our society and "support the lazy and those engaged in black market activities." Sounds like an unsubstatiated claim to me. |

Reform is great, but there will always be those unable to care for themselves.. it shows compassion to give to these people, and if we don't do it voluntarily then the government makes programs for it... should that be done away with? In my opinion NO, however there should be no open ended support without some training etc to help the person be self sufficient! If it were open ended I believe it does cause a cyclical effect, a trap if you will, because you never make enough to cover childcare etc and the minute you do they cut the sustinance where you are back to not making enough money... Happy medium would be education to allow betterment, child care provided or subsidised, but for pity sake don't keep having babies and setting the ones you have back more!!! just a few thoughts |

It is basic economics Phyduex. Tax something you get less of it. Subsidize something you get more of it. Oh, I forgot you are a liberal, you have no understanding of basic economics. Al |

And see, I didn't get rude with you. Why can't you debate without getting rude. Often ANOTHER last resort. Now, we can debate this or not, but I wont stoop to that. Either debate or go. If you want to refrase that, we can continue. |

It is basic economics, make work less fruitful by taxing it people on a whole work less: pay people not to work, more people won't work.Al |

Get rid of it. We the taxpayers have to help these people thats not right. People should get out there and get jobs. Sure its really hard sometimes to find a job out there. Some people just take advantage of the wellfare. I am tired of working over 40 hours a week and others just collect their wellfare checks doing nothing. |
