I know what you mean. Judas Priest and Ozzy Osbourne were like the big taboos on the parental lists when I was growing up. Parents were afraid kids would kill themselves by listening to some of their songs. I thought and still think that was stupid. I do not think songs influence people to kill. Charlie Manson claimed The Beatles WHite Album told him to kill all those people. But, the guy thought he was Jesus Christ too. There were no hidden messages! Hang in there... |

I do! if someone is influeneced to do something completley stupid by music, it isnt the band's fault, it isnt like they worte that song or that lyric to tell some kid ot specificly go shoot someone, or kill a bunch of ppl for no reason. Your frineds mom needs to realize that if she thinks her kid is goign to kill someone cause he listens to that music, she obviously doesnt know her son that well, and if she thinkgs her son is gonna do that, she needs to help him instead of trying to rid what she bellives the problem is... *pixiestix* |

Right.....and Ozzy's "Sucide Solution" was responsible for a kid commiting suicide & the song "I am the warrior" was responsible for the shooting in a MacDonalds in the 80's. Emotional disturbed kids, listen to disturbed music (come on, you know it's true......that's why we listened to Ozzy).....I don't think the music twists the kids, I think the kids are already bent & listening to the music..... |

I hate it how people blame music and movies. IT's the kids fault! The band's not actually serious about killing every one, it's just a way of getting their feeling of hatred and anger out. Well...I'm guessing that. I've written poetry about killing, because I was in a bad mood, but I would NEVER kill any one. So it's not like the band is actually serious about killing and wanting people to kill, or else they would have done it already and would be in jail. So yeah, in short - It's stupid to blame music, it's not the music, it's the killer's fault. |

If a person is prone to violent acts, they would be inclined to carry them out, if it wasn't the music, something would set them off eventually. As for your friends mom, she is in the right all the way. A parent has the right to regulate the media in their home. That is called responsible parenting, it isnt always fun for the kid, but it serves a purpose. |

Maybe they can be blamed somehow.Im a teenager and I get affected with music.I know teenagers who do wat is told for them in music or even books they read. Some teenagers have problems and this might be the lillte force to push the rock from the cliff and BANG. |

Time, with a disturbed person, if it isn't the music, something else would likely push them over that line. |

Can I peek in and ask a question? I don't know the song but why do we need a song that says "just shoot your teacher with a gun"? What possible good could come from that? I aggree that the ones commiting the acts are ultimately at fault, but where do the orginal ideas come from? -eddo |

ive gone threw all the slipknot lyrics eddo and not one has that line and there is no song titled school wars its just the media makeing up crap also time i dont know what kind of psycho would kill someone because of a line from a lyric, phydeux your right but some of us have different ways of releasing anger i play my guitar when im mad and it works i used to bottle it up then just take it out on an inanimate object but now i have a guitar which i can create something good with i.e. music and its more effective then beating the poo out of a pillow and its kind of the same deal with him now the song jeremy has good meaning behind it and if people would take time and read lyrics instead of just looking at a video then they would get the real meaning |

i completely agree that music is like therapy i am just the same. i listen to tool when i am feeling depressed, because i am manic depressive. it honestly helps me. music can bring out certain things in people and in a good person- NO song would make them want to kill, but i think in someone already wanting to do it, who just wanted an excuse, a song with questionable lyrics could be a good one. like ladyspiritguide said- music is like a mirror that reflects society. not the other way around. |

To say that music causes school shootings is ridiculous. To deny that violent and graphic lyrics don't influence kids is ignorant. Don't yell at me, Jest'r, there's a strong case to be made for desensatization. People are crazy, but listening to Wagner tends to make them less crazy, I think. |

Blaming music is the easy alternative to taking responsibility as a parent. The media is not in charge of raising your children. |
