Memorial Day

To many, this weekend is the first weekend of summer, or just another holiday. To some however, this weekend is a time to remember, and to reflect.

I would ask that as you go about your Memorial Day weekend festivities, that you take a little time to do a few things.

First, say a prayer. Pray for those who returned and now must live with their past. There pain is something that no medicine can ever cure. Also, say a prayer for those who did not return, that there spirits may find peace.

Second, whenever you see the Flag this weekend, stop for a moment and ask yourself, "What does it stand for?".

Third, If you happen to see an aged veteran going to or returning from a Memorial service, stop him or her, and tell them thanks. Tell them that you really do care for what they did, and that you mean it.

Fourth, go to the store and buy a small flag. Go to your local cemetary, find the gravesite of a veteran, and place it on their grave.

Last, while you are at the cemetary, if you happen upon a mother or wife crying over a grave marked with a flag, go to her and try to comfort her. Tell her that her loved ones sacrifice was not in vain.

I hope you all enjoy your Memorial Day weekend. Just remember those who gave there lives so that you could have it.

Date: 5/21/2002 12:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 28946    I respect the great gift our Veterans gave for us and our great country! I lost a cousin in Vietnam and a cousin was on The USS Indianapolis when it was torpedoed during WW2. He was one who the sharks got. My Dad still carries the bullet in his hip from WW2 and and my brothers all served during Vietnam. Many of my cousins also served during that war. The ones that came back home from any war lost so much. Their innocence was lost for thefe is nothing so horrible as witnessing war violence! Yes, I honor all Veterans that gave so much! Great post!
