Should we Kill the Newbie Button again? *S2D*

If you're in chat at all, you know that there's some idiot going through doing stupid things, getting his account whacked, and then making a new one. We've had a huge flow of new people into USM recently. Should we hold the phone for a bit now? Whatcha think?

Date: 5/13/2002 7:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 2030    God almighty lets kill it for about 6 months. I'll even post, I'll open a coffee house site! Anything!!!
Date: 5/13/2002 7:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 12823    Yes. And I feel this is so very sad. This feature is so rarely turned on, yet when it is, it is so quickly to be abused. Sorry this fool is ruining things for everyone. We are working on blocking his ISP now.
Date: 5/13/2002 7:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 26733    Yes! I'm starting to see a pattern in the rude/ridiculous/uncalled for comments and related is coming from a lot of the new users.
Date: 5/13/2002 7:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 49498    Yes, the 50000's are not all nice. theyve been swearing in posts and making rude and crude remarks, i say hold the phone..M.Man
Date: 5/13/2002 7:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 48279    Well if people are abusing it, I think we should. But then again there are people out there who really want to be members. But if those few people ruin it for all of them, thats just how it goes. We can have "idiots" going around making this place somewhere we cant come to have fun.

Date: 5/13/2002 7:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 19586    I totally agree, I have seen someone bring down a post just for kicks it seems like. ~icunurse
Date: 5/13/2002 7:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 20778    some of the 50,000's are more witty than i ever was ! It's scary! lol
Date: 5/13/2002 7:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 42539    yes!yes!yes!yes!!!!!!!
Date: 5/13/2002 7:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 53324    Yes, sad to say because I waited for three weeks checking every day to get on, but there are so many ignorant people out there---Grendel
Date: 5/13/2002 7:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 26733    Need to keep a close eye on those new users. Seems to be a baby-sitting job. A lot of them are foolish children.
Date: 5/13/2002 7:37:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 23991    Hold the Phone! I agree a million and a half percent. I'm sick of going into chat and having the screen cleared every 3 seconds, or going into a post and getting chewed out by someone who frankly has no clue what they're talking about. It's just ludicrious now!
Date: 5/13/2002 7:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 43339    Some how,i knew my comment would be deleted. Whatever.
Date: 5/13/2002 7:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 50193    It took me over a month and a half to finally join because you guys "killed" the newbie button. Sure, some newbies are not all that good [for lack of better term], but at one time all of us had to click that button. I think killing the button is killing the chance for some great people to join the sight. In my opinion [one not shared by many of you, obviously] I think we should give everybody a fair chance to join and never kill the newbie button. Kill the bad newbies, not the button that allows good newbies to join. >Vampyre Gerbil<
Date: 5/13/2002 7:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 52692    Definately should be deleted
Date: 5/13/2002 7:41:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 23991    Aww, Shelly, I can't believe they did that! I don't think they had any right to let what that kid was saying just slide, and they did for about five minutes until someone finally got up the balls to say something about it. This is the most assinine thing in the world, and I wish I knew how to spell ludicrous..
Date: 5/13/2002 7:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 25481    Yes!!!!
Date: 5/13/2002 7:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 27046    Actually I think that they changed the new user button so that you cannot have more than one account from the same ISP...however most dial up services change ISP's each time you dial in. I know that I tried to make an account for my aunt when she was here from my computer and it wouldn't let me because I already have one. When I asked Ginger she told me that they had changed it so you couldn't.....at least with a locked ISP you can't.....
Date: 5/13/2002 7:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 15675    yes and no. I had two sweet friends (music luver and bailey_boo) who waited months to join this site but only got to a few days ago! But i don't like all the sickos and hackings so i torn here!
Date: 5/13/2002 7:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 15070    Yes!!!!!!!!
Date: 5/13/2002 7:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 43339    I know pattykins, and i just got chewed out by an admin for saying it too. It is the truth though. No one cared untill they said something really bad about an admin. When they were saying things about me.. oh just give them a 3 min time out..Oh well. This will probably be deleted too.
Date: 5/13/2002 7:48:00 PM  From Authorid: 47296    I will have to agree. Maybe it is time to let things settle down a bit. This is too great a site to have people just prance in, raise a little cain, and then leave.
Date: 5/13/2002 7:53:00 PM  From Authorid: 53182    wait wait wait! i actully wanted to join this site cuz i saw how really cool it was ,and i had to wait for a month before i was able to join. I felt really bad that you guys wouldn't let me on your site. there might be idiots out there, but you can't use that as an excuse to deprive nice people who are egar to join the site from ytour company. -the lost boy
Date: 5/13/2002 8:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 9130    After reading the replies I wonder WHAT ARE YOU PEOPLE THINKING? You act as though ALL the new members are horrible evil troublemakers-- and they are NOT. Just because of a few idiots you all want to stop all new people from coming here... what if Admin decided to do this before YOU came here? That wouldn't have been fun, would it?
Date: 5/13/2002 8:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 50193    I feel as if Dizzy took what I was trying to say with my reply, and put it better than I did. Thank you, Dizzy. >VG<
Date: 5/13/2002 8:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 53182    thank you, dizzy. exactly what i wanted to express. -the lost boy
Date: 5/13/2002 8:25:00 PM  From Authorid: 1631    I still consider half of you repliers to be "newbies". Have you all forgotten that quickly what it was like to be new? Now you see what I'VE had to put up with longer than ANY of y'all! LOL...
Date: 5/13/2002 8:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 1631    Besides, sometimes we NEED some new blood around here. Keeps things lively and helps keep the "fluff" balance in check...
Date: 5/13/2002 8:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 47296    Dizzy, when I joined USM, the new user button had been deactivated. I was able to join because two other people here asked that I be allowed to join. No, not all new USMers are troublemakers. The thing is though that it only takes one to ruin a site.
Date: 5/13/2002 8:40:00 PM  From Authorid: 53836    well as a newbie, I hope you don't think of kicking me out...I love it here...I don't have a say though...Space Case76
Date: 5/13/2002 8:46:00 PM  From Authorid: 49689    Here is what you do..If they make a rude comment in one of your posts..Delete the comment.....
If they make an inappropriate post ..let the Admins delete that.....
If it continues then cancel there account and just keep doing it......
They will understand sooner or later....
Oh and that is "IP" address not "ISP" After all your ISP who you get online through

Date: 5/13/2002 9:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 54205    well you know what stinks? i am (or was) M.Man (see above 49498) but my account got messed up and i had to rejoin. hopefull admin can help out and find it again..M.Man
Date: 5/13/2002 9:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 49459    Yes! I've had some weird messeges from newbies and have seen them "acting up" in chat. I guess in order to get the few good people you have to struggle through the hundred bad. I was a newbie once though, so I guess I'ts not fair to blame all newbies for a few bad apples.
Date: 5/14/2002 12:19:00 AM  From Authorid: 53689    I have to say as a "newbie" that this post worries me. I just joined and I have fallen in love with this site. I don;t want to be kicked off because of somebody elses mistakes.
