It's going on ten p.m. now and not a single soul has wished me Happy Mother's Day today. That's why I'm now doing so myself. While it's true that I'm not exactly a Mother, I consider that to be a mere technicality. Perhaps we should have a day which is set aside for everyone who isn't a Mother, Father, veteran or ethnic minority. It would have nothing to do with religion or patriotism or anything else. It would simply be called, The Day for the Rest of You. I can hear it now, "Happy Day for the Rest of You!" Since this holiday is being invented by me right here tonight, I hereby proclaim that the first annual day of celebration shall be tomorrow, 5/13/2002. The appropriate gifts which will soon become a part of the tradition will be cheesecake, chocolate covered peanuts or plain M&M's, steak dinners and beer. Oh no! I just realized that there are no cards for this holiday yet! It's okay. I can have them ready for the stores by next 5/13. The first year, they can be home made if need be. That'll be special too in it's own way. Making it yourself requires time and patience and thought. Even a simple gift is precious if some real thought is put into it. Can I hear now from "the rest of you?" Caution: If you already have another holiday dedicated to you, respond to this post at your own risk. Days like today are touchy for "the rest of us!" (Birthdays don't count since we all have those even after we're dead! LOL!) I don't know about any of you but I'm really starting to get into the holiday spirit and I can't wait for the big celebration tomorrow! It's going to be the best! Let's make this day one which will be rich in tradition. We'll light a small campfire in the middle of the living room floor, toast marshmallows, tell ghost stories and ponder things that we really shouldn't be thinking about at all. That will be followed by the March of the Dill Pickles and then everyone will throw popcorn at each other and giggle like little girls. After that, we'll carry our sleeping bags up a ladder and sleep on the roof. If anyone rolls off in the middle of the night, we'll laugh at you and call you the "holiday buffoon." Now, doesn't that sound like fun? Happy Day for the Rest Of Us! Yeeeeeeeee Hawwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
