I've grown up in a part of town where nobody really cares what u wear, discrimination is not cool and it's cool to stand up and say what u believe no matter how cool u r or r not. Well recently I've had to take a couple classes in a different nieghborhood and i can't believe what these kids worry about!! They care whether u look good or not, they have cliques(sp?) and they have a definent "in" group and an "out" group. I mean they r so matrialistic! They seem to be living in this little make believe world with their cute designer jeans and jaguers (not that i have any thing against jaguers or designer wear, its just that these products r what gives u ur social status) and i just wish i could make them wake up and see the real world. The thing that really blew my top was their attitude towards inter-racial dating! This isn't an issue where i live, its a fact of life. -chaosforever

Date: 5/12/2002 6:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 48993    some people * shakes head* i have always felt that acceptance is the key to a better world , and those people that live like this and seek material things instead of being a better person and a spiritual being.... will loose out in the big picture!! so sad for them

Date: 5/12/2002 8:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 16069    Be proud of yourself for realizing what really is important.
Date: 5/12/2002 8:51:00 PM  From Authorid: 17014    I'd like to live somewhere like the first sentence you described. I like to live in my own world though too-- I could care less what others think of me and how I dress (which is just your normal jeans and tshirt kind of thing). I can't stand materialistic people though, they annoy the heck out of me and I tend to look down on them rather than up to them. I'd rather make in difference in others lives by being a friend than be a friend in a group only because of what I own and wear, I hope you understood what I just said-- it's kind of confusing....
Date: 5/12/2002 11:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 7089    materialistic little darlings-- esp. if they're bigoted little darlings --amuse me these days, & are only worthy of pity altho it's hard not to sneer at them...if anyone's got a bigoted ego it means they've hellacious fears they don't want seen, but guess what...in flaunting what they have-- or think they have --they're only revealing that which they don't. sad ain't it, tho some may grow out of it as maturity hits. cheers,
