One day I was home from school sick. I got the usual talk from my mom not to answer the phone or door. And to call for help immediately if anything went wrong. I took my pillow and blanket downstairs and fell asleep on the couch in front of a big window at the front of our house. A few hours later I woke up to some strange noises. I immediately froze. There was someone out front of the house. So I ran and hid in a corner in the dining room. When I peeked around the corner there was a man peeping in through our front window! I almost screamed. A few seconds later he was jiggling the handle on the front door. When I thought he was gone, I went to the front door and looked through the peephole and his truck was still out front. I didn't know where he was. The next thing I know, I heard the handle on the back door downstairs being jiggled. I started totally freaking out. Instead of calling for help I remained hiding! The man finally left. So I came out of my hiding spot and stared out the front window. Every few minutes the man drove by in his truck. I finally decided to call my mom and tell her that someone had came up to the house peeping in and kept driving around the block. And to make it worse, there had just recently been robberies around the neighborhood only a few streets away. So my mom told me to stay on the line while she called the police. As I was waiting, I heard the truck pull up outside. The man came back and was turning the door knob again. At that point I started screaming to my mom that he was trying to get in again. A few moments later he left for good. The cops went searching for him and a half an hour later I got a call from my mom. She said the cops found him and pulled him over to question him. Here he was a construction worker looking for the house he was suppose to work on, which happpened to be my neighbors house. He said they were suppose to leave the door unlocked for him. But he couldn't remember the address. The cop told him he scared a girl who was at home alone and that he wasn't too smart going around peeping in peoples homes and trying their door handles. He apologized and went on his way. I was so thankful he wasn't a criminal! Hopefully he learned his lesson. How it changed my life:I know to keep the door locked at all times. I can't imagine if he walked in! I would've been screaming my head off.
