The ReluctanceTo Help Out

You see it everyday, an accident on the side of the road,a car getting stolen, violence in the streets. All have the same variables, something wrong, witnesses, the reluctance to get involved. Its a shame that one can see an accident, make joking remarks about the damage and suffering, then slowly drive by to take a closer look without even ensuring that no one needs medical attention. Neighbors have stood idle by and watched as a truck pulls into a driveway and shadowy figures proceed to load all your belonging and drive off. Police report that none called in to report your house being burglarized. When asked, your neighbor says he saw nothing or doesnt want to get involved. The power of a simple anonymous phone call would make a world of differnce to some one if only people were more willing to be "involved". Has the day come where we dont know any of our neighbors, where the only defense is to be caged in our home or to depend on noone but ourselves? With todays relunctance to help one another, we give more power to those outside the law. Why are people so afraid or hesitant to try to help one another? Will you wish different once you are the victim and not the witness?
