IN THE STUDIO with Heather:
JEZEBEL: Tell us about yourself...
HEATHER: I'm in the computer field but my first love is anthropology. I found long ago that i can think as logically as a computer, so i basically jumped into it with no experience..and was outprogramming the ones that had been there for years within months. i realized that they don't know what they're doing half the time, they just go to books or colleagues to ask what to do -...i have a semi photographic memory...meaning, i see it and it stays, but i can let go of it after weeks or so depending on what it is..to make room for more. that helps alot in programming and database administration..remember exactly what screens fixed lines of code in my head etc...as to the anthropology, i love it from archaeology (of ancient ruins in specific)...cultural anthropology of all kinds..- i wanted to have a career in that and went to college for it, but decided to make some big money instead for awhile, then comfortably go do my anthropology a bit later 8-) i want to write horror novels and alternate reality novels, but i have yet to settle down and find time to do much of it. i love animals of every kind....they are my weakness, i can't stand to see a stray hungry anything - and i spoil my two so rotten that one of them won't let anyone touch her or even get near her without trying to scratch them...they're 'momma's girls' LOL
Do you ever wonder why i rarely use caps? i'm excellent spelling and grammar rules, and i used them until about 5 years ago...i got an email from a friend that was an old wise guy, in the computer field, and not a cap in his letter - i thought hmmmmmmmm...saves time typing....says you don't give a rip what everyone else thinks........stands out - i like it!! so i was a convert and never had another cap correct writing after reading it. I do use correct caps in certain business emails and such.
J: What brought you to USM?
H: I cruise the net all day at work..i usually played games online all day before usm - but i was searching and found one of LSG's posts that was titled something like 'you might be a pagan if..''....and i saw the front page...all the interesting categories...- i saw the format of how people could just read stories and reply if they wanted..and i loved it, i signed up the first day - i was never an online chatter before, but i'm totally addicted now. I love USM 8-) and i think when i say i love usm i mean the people here..that is what makes up USM.
J: What kept you coming back?
H: The people, seeing all the different stories on ancient beliefs and religion..having such a nice variety of people and cultures and ages and all types of diversity..i love psychology and love to 'people watch' in the mall, this is that on a much grander scale because you observe and interact all day and long term. i love it - just seeing the different ways people think and the different things that interest them..very nice.
J: Do you have any favorite subjects or groups on USM?
H: Ancient religions/beliefs, discussion and debate - in the news because i like to keep current on what goes on in the world - most of the time after reading the first few pages of 'new stories'..i go to the recently replied to - that way i see what others are talking about, catch some old stories, and see the general trend of what's getting replied to..
J: What got you into the unusual "In the News" postings? Where do you find your stories?
H: When i first came on i spoke more of personal paranormal experiences and ancient religions...ancient mysteries..out of place artifacts...true 'unsolved mysteries'.............back then there were more that were interested in that - now, i find i get much more interaction and interest if i post the in the news articles...i have a warped sense of humor i think sometimes, and i can pick the ones that at least will draw interest LOL - for those that have read my earlier posts know that i'm very proud of them, and if you do a search on a cryptozoological animals or a good ghost story or myth, or an ancient belief of value - i will have done at least one on it...sometimes i switch back to those kinds but my replies dwindle to 3 -6 a story, so i go back to in the news. i often wish we could search by author and category together... more than liking 'news' let me thank you all for liking my sense of humor and strange taste - cause the stories i pick reflect them.....i will continue to find strange stories and post them, and yes i try to weed out the false ones, i get them from sites that gather news of the weird from all over the net and then posts links - so my stories come from all over really.
J: Do you consider yourself a "spiritual" person? How did you come to be this way?
H: I was raised southern baptist...but i never could accept that a god that loves us all, as i feel god does - would condemn people to 'hell' just for what country they were born in..nor did i think that a 'hell' would exist for a god that loved all....that started me on a quest which will go on until i die - and i've become extremely enlightened along the way - i am very spiritual, god is very important to me. finding the truth and continuing to learn is important - and that comes from god. so how did i get this way? by using my brain, and my heart - by using the wisdom god gave us to seek more - and i have found enough to say that i am very spiritual and will only grow more so as life goes on.
J: Have you ever had a paranormal experience?
H: Yes i've had many, i can't do them justice here, so i'll give you some things to search on to find my story...i did one about a true ouija working - and the trauma behind the family whose house and board it was..try searching for 'site specific' and my title is oiuja's might be site specific....another search is 'burial ground'...i think the title was the strongest vibes i've ever gotten were at this indian burial ground. i also had a ghost (well known ghost, nationally written about) sing my name...that title is...well, i don't remember, but it might have had sing my name in it...i will try to find that and link to it when this interview is posted. i healed a dog once...and had a witness to that..search for 'healed dog' and you'll find that one....
J: What do you like to do when you're not at USM?
H: I like to love on my cats 8-) Baby and Precious..one black and one white long hair...they are over 10 years old. i like to ride motorcycles and love being out in nature (camping hiking, etc...)i love strategy and role playing games on the computer and playstation - I'm an artist but i don't take as much time to do it as i should - - i collect movies , 8-) so i love to watch movies ....i like to read and learn - i love to gamble...i've had some great successes at the casinos so I'm hooked forever 8-) I enjoy being at home and having quiet times......
J: If you could do anything to improve the site, what would you do?
H: I like the site overall - but the few things i would change are:...i would either make it two posts per hour, or change the rule to reflect what it is, two posts every two hours - i'm used to the rule but it irks me that the rule isn't stated the way the site is set up - two per two hours is two per two hours..not one LOL...........i would make it to where the IP's of the computers were registered or something to where old usmer's can't create umpteen or even one new account to freak with the minds of those they already know *-)......the only really selfish thing i'd like is what i mentioned earlier..when you click in an author's stories i wish you could either list them by date as they are or list them by category - like saying 'sort as'...i wish they could be sorted by category, because alot of my very good ones are lost back in my old stories...i have quite a few out there....
J: Do you have any role models on USM or in real life?
H: Wise is a role model for me here and in real life....he shows me how to be more temperate at times in both places....he is a good guy to look up to - and i won't make him blush by listing all the things cause i've done several posts just for that 8-) Kethria is someone i look up to in real life - she has worked for nothing just because she loves her work and is loyal and she is a veterinarian...one career that i wanted until i realized i'd have to see sick animals - i can't stand to see them hurting 8-(she is a wonderful lady and strong of character - i admire her much - sur5r i admire for her wisdom and honesty - there are so many others..i have made many a friend here on USM...i guess the role model for my life - is mr. spock 8-) wise can comment on that one to give more insight LOL, but - i admire his pursuit of all knowledge, his logic, his infallibility - i always wanted him tempered a little with McCoy's personality..spock with emotion - that is me. So he is my role model because he is alot like me - and i like me. 8-)
J: Do you have any anecdotes or advice you'd like to impart or some words to live by?
H: I can't for the life of me find the qoute but there is one by a famous poet that is something like "to be a slave to one's emotions is to have truly lived"...(anyone that knows who wrote it please tell me 8-) ........another is 'if sense is so common why don't we see more of it" ...AMEN to that one - - -and my own qoute that just takes an old qoute and makes it more truthful, is this " WHAT IS, IS -but never assume that you KNOW, what is"....8-) 8-) that is the truest quote in the world, methinks.
J: Finally, what would you do if you were a ghost?
H: I believe we'll all be a 'ghost' one day 8-) so when i'm there i will check in on loved ones and make sure all is well..i would go check out a few supposedly haunted places too - and see what's up from the other side...
