Hell and the movie Dogma....by HaqZombie

I hope that this gets a lot of responses, that's the point of this story.

I recently bought and watched the DVD Dogma(which if you haven't heard of it, it is a very funny religious movie based on two angels who are banished from heaven, and found a way back to heaven, and if they do enter the gates will negate all existence.) Very interesting plotline. Anyway, there is a cut scene where Jason Lee is giving his viewpoint on Hell. Here's pretty much what he said.

Back before there were humans, God created Angels to serve in heaven. When Lucifer decided to take on the throne, there were two factions. The faithful and the renegades. In the end, God banished Lucifer and his followers to Hell. Back then, when there was no free-will, Angels had no choice but to believe in God, and when they were sent to hell, felt the pain of the divine absence of God. That's what hell was back then. A cold dark room where they could live with the pain of the absence. But when humans came around, they could choose to ignore God, thereby ignore the pain of the absence. So God created hell as it is today. Fire and brimstone, pain and anguish.

I can't quite explain it, sometime I'll watch it again and copy it down word for word and post it in here. I just thought that people would enjoy this one. If you have the chance, buy or rent the DVD version of Dogma. If you like religious debates, (not to mention a lot of swearing), get this movie. Talk to ya later!!!

Date: 5/3/2002 2:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 26573    Great movie, just because Chris Rock is the 13th appostle, and Jay and Silent Bob are in it!!
Date: 5/3/2002 3:49:00 PM  From Authorid: 16671    Now lots of people think movies like this are blasphemouse towards God. I see no problem with humor. I saw the previews, thought it would be very funny and I do so like cris rock. I want to see it. However, you have to know that not everything that is written in a movie and so called Quotes God, is true. That you have to read and decided for yourself.
Date: 5/3/2002 3:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 47618    I loved alot of the spirtual points they made in the film - even if they were just someone's ideas or theories. I think hell that would be an absense from god would be worst than fire and brimstone. And i love Seredipity's line where she says that we're too busy mourning our faith rather than celebrating it.
Date: 5/3/2002 3:54:00 PM  From Authorid: 15394    yeah where are the books about jesus's life from age 12 to 30 hmmmmmmm??? I liked the movie!!
Date: 5/3/2002 4:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 21867    Yo HaqZombie,
Dogma is one of my favourite movies...even though I was brought up Catholic, and my parents are still very staunch in their Catholic Faith. I just cracked up through the whole thing...definitely a must see. Peace,

Date: 5/3/2002 7:21:00 PM  From Authorid: 51027    great movie george carlin was in it any thing with george carlin is funny~matrix33
Date: 5/3/2002 7:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 29806    Pretty much what Jason Lee (Azreal) said is that humans created an image of hell, that they believed it would be like the one we imagine today. As he says "Humans BEGGED to be punished" So they imagined their own torture, and NOTHING IS MORE IMPRESSIONABLE TO AN ANGELS MIND THEN HUMAN THOUGHT!!" I've got it on DVD too, it's such a great movie. Kevin Smith is a great writer/director. -ID-
Date: 5/3/2002 7:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 29806    I'm sorry, I forgot one part, Jason lee said that Hell was originally just existence without god, which was torturous enough, but humans made it the way it is now. -ID-
Date: 5/4/2002 12:02:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 31997    Thank you. I never thought that this movie was so popular. And Firstborn, you are right. Not everything that is written in movies is true. I do believe that, but what way to get people more knowledgeable than to put it in a movie, right? Not many people read books anymore. I don't believe everything that I see in movies, just it sometimes opens your eyes. Thanx.
Date: 5/4/2002 1:28:00 PM  From Authorid: 36803    I love this movie. :P I've seen it so many times I can't even remember. It just cracked me up the whole through. And yes, I do think the movie brings up some good spiritual points. I like when serendipity says, "It doesn't matter what you have faith in, just as long as you have faith." I always thought that was cool. And when chris rock says,"They (meaning the people) took a good idea and made a whole belief system out of it." Good post.
Date: 5/4/2002 4:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 29806    Your right about the book thing HAQ, like Metatron (Alan Rickman) said "You people...If it's not in a bloody movie, it's not worth knowing is it?" Also, he said "Oh, tell people you're the Metatron and they look at you blankly, mention something from a Charlton Heston movie and everybody's a bloody theologist major!" lol. -ID-
Date: 5/5/2002 8:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 52804    i loved this movie!! so funny, i laughed so hard i cried. if you haven't seen it you defianaitly should -disgruntaled angel-
Date: 5/5/2002 10:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 50002    I would like to say that this is a masterpiece for bringing out the inconsistanceies of all religion which man made. I am a catholic and free thinker when it comes to issues.
