Alien Bob's Quest

Bob pulled himself up the mountainside. He had to make it to the top. Renya was there; he had to get to her. If he didn't make it in time, his beloved Renya could never be his. He didn't know how long he had, because he had lost all sense of time. Yet he knew that Tressola (the Night of the Three Suns) when the three stars that warmed the planet of Kimepta lined up to form one dazzling ball of fire in the sky. This was the day that Bob had to reach her by or else he would have failed. This also means that it had been almost a year since he had started on his quest. As all three suns shown down on him, Bob knew it was almost moon-up. The suns show brightest an hour before they set. He needed to find a place to rest and shelter for the night. He searched for almost half-hour before he found a small cave. He curled up in the corner and quickly fell asleep. Thoughts raced through his dreams about the night, almost a year ago now, when he was ripped from the arms of his love.

The tink, tink, tink of the small stones landing on the floor roused Renya from her sleep. She ran to the window and saw her beloved Bob, his big eyes looking up at her. She beckoned him up and he climbed the tall Viller tree and jumped into her room through the window. Bob threw himself on the floor, tears streaming from his eyes, as he professed his love for his dear Renya. She begged him to get up; there was no need for him to bow anymore. She loved him, which made them equals. He put his arms around he waist and drew her near. She kissed him. Just then, the door flew open and King Eray burst into the room. He began ranting, how dare this no one love his daughter. Renya fell to the floor beside Bob who had bowed down as soon as Eray entered the room. She pleaded with him, not to kill her love. The king was not moved. It was not until she began to weep, that Eray decided to give him a chance. Yet because of Bob's status as a servant, the king could not just allow him to marry her. All her other suitors were high in status, a knight or lord, who have proven themselves by deeds. What has this servant Bob done?

Bob awoke, and sat up suddenly. He had been dreaming about that night so long ago, when he was first given this test to prove his love. He looked down at his body, he had given up trying to clean his wounds. His skin was caked in sand, blood and sweat. Caked so think that he could barely move his limbs. Gashes, cuts, skins, and punctures covered his body, none of his wounds had time to heal instead they were filled with sand, or torn open again. Yet Bob felt no physical pain, his only concern was Renya. Everything in his body told him that he must make it to her soon, and now he was so close. He had crawled through the land his people call the Desolate, and now he had finally arrived to Mt. Shimil. This is where she waited for him, at the vertex of this towering mountain.

Eray had decided. He would send Bob on a quest, but not normal quest, no. This would be to make it to Renya in time. She would be waiting for him at the top of the tallest mountain in the middle of the Desolate. A desert area that because of the ground consistency the only way to make it through was to crawl on your stomach the keep the weight even or else the ground would collapse and he would fall into the sand. It was the worst place anyone could be, though it was not impossible to make it through, it was not very likely. Eray's rational was that if he was truly meant to be with his daughter, the gods would save him and guide him to his destination. Eray told Bob he had one year, until the Tressola, to make it to Mt. Shimil, where Renya would be waiting for him. Yet because he was not a bad man, just slightly overprotective, if Bob ever needed pulled out of the Desolate, he would only have to shoot off a Straya riffle (which is similar to a flare gun) and someone would come retrieve him. So Renya and three guards walked him to the edge of the Desolate. Renya kissed him goodbye. With tears in his eyes, he gets down on his hands and knees. He looks back at her one last time, before getting all the way down on the ground and pulling himself forward. Renya wails for her love and the guards have to carry her back to the castle.

Bob decided it was time to start again. He couldn't rest very long, time was running out. It was dark outside, the only light was from the two moons, that were luckily full this evening. He walked out of the cave. He could walk now that he was out of the Desolate, but the jagged rocks of Mt. Shimil were not much better. Still, Bob did not care; he did not care about the cold frozen nights or the scorching hot days. He did not care about the wounds, the pain of the new cuts or the sand in the old ones. Bob cared about nothing, except making it to the top, to his beloved Renya. Would he make it on time? Bob couldn't be sure of the day, how did he know he hadn't already missed it? No, he couldn't have missed it, because then they would have come for him. Yes, he still had time, and he will make it. He must make it. The gods had not let him die yet, why would they now? Bob knew he would make it. He had to. Hand over hand Bob pulled himself up. There were not many foot ledges, but enough little ones for his hands. Bob did it with ease; pure adrenaline ruled him now. He could tell he was close.

Bob crawled during the night, it was often freezing but it was better than the burning suns. The ground was littered with small rocks. A hindrance to someone who must crawl on their stomach over them, yet also helpful to one whom must eat. Bob would survive by throwing rocks at the large Mopwa bird and eating their raw flesh and drinking their blood. It was sickening at first to him, and he cringed each time he did it, but he soon developed a tolerance and knew it was the only way for him to survive. During the day, he slept, usually in the shade of a large rock. Bob kept his bearings easily because all he had to do was crawl toward Mt. Shimil, which was easily seen from all directions. Each night he got closer and closer. Crawling, sleeping and eating, it became natural almost second nature that he should be living like this. The only thing that kept him sane was Renya. Closer and closer he got. The mountain was right there, in front of him but he could not just run to it because he could not stand up. So the sight tortured him for what seemed like yeas but could not have been more than days. Finally he reached the base of Mt. Shimil. He touched it and breathed deeply. His pain was half over. The mountain was left to climb, but the Desolate had been defeated. In order to stand up Bob crawled onto a big rock and for the first time in many months could stand. It took him a few moments to get his balance but then he began to climb. He did not want to waste anymore time and decided from now on to only rest in short intervals and climb both day and night.

Bob could see the top of the mountain. He knew Renya was there, waiting for him and he could not stand it any longer. He wanted to climb faster, he wanted to fly the rest of the way up. He climbed with all his might. Putting forth ore energy than he realized he had left. He climbed so fast and so hard that he did not ever realize how fast he was going, Bob just knew he had to make it to the top. Night came and went. Still Bob climbed on. As the three suns rose in the sky Bob was a mere 100 feet from the summit. He looked up to the sky. The suns were starting to align. It was Tressola! Bob would make it to the top, today. He would finally be able to set eyes upon his beautiful Renya. Tonight she would finally be his. Tonight they would be married. Bob pulled his body up, slowly but relentlessly. Finally, the top! He saw her. His Renya was there. He had finally reached the top. No words could describe the joy that over took him. Tears welled up in his eyes, the pain, the suffering, and the anguish it was all over. He had made it. Bob had proven himself. King Eray had to allow him to marry Renya now. He ran to her. She saw him running and with tears in his eyes began to run to him. They meet and she wraps her arms around him and kisses him, more passionately than any other kiss in all of history. Eray walked slowly over the two. He addressed Bob as his son and Renya sobbed as she thanked him. In fact the king had them married right there. Bob cut, bleeding and deathly tired and Renya crying tears of joy. They shared another kiss, this time joined in marriage. As the troupe was flown down from the summit of Mt. Shimil Bob noticed Renya was feeling faint. Although she said it was nothing, Bob was worried. Renya was not a strong person and she had been waiting for him on that horrid mountain all day, in the blazing starburst of three suns burning as one. They reached the castle and Bob and Renya went to their bedroom. Renya helped Bob clean and dress his wounds. Just as she was placing the last bandage on his arm, Renya passed out. The doctor who had been there to tend to Bob carried her to the bed. He set her down and told Bob that it was most likely sunstroke and she should just rest. Bob got in bed beside her. He whispered into her ear how much he loved her, and immediately fell asleep. Bob could not remember when he slept so well. He woke up after what seemed like ages. He turned to wake Renya, but her skin was cold to the touch. He tried to wake her, but she would not open her eyes. Bob called for the doctor who came running to the room. Bob sat in the corner of the room, his hand in his hands, crying softly. He knew deep in his heart that she was dead. The doctor shortly confirmed this. Bob cried and did not stop until he could cry no more tears. How could the gods do this to him? A year he crawled through the Desolate and climbed the impossible Mt. Shimil. He completed his task; he had made it in time. How could they rip her from him now, after all he had been through to get to her? Though while he was angry for her death, he was thankful for the one night he got to spend with her. That one tender kiss, and endless night with her in his arms was his to remember always and he would never forget it. This is why he spent that year proving himself. For one night, and that was fine with him. That was all he needed, he loved her that much. Renya was buried a week later. King Eray feeling very upset with himself because of what he put Bob through adopted Bob as his son. It was in the palace, where Bob spent the rest of his days. He had realized somewhere in his long life that it was his destiny to suffer for he became a great advisor to the people of Eray's kingdom and even to Eray himself. Bob died in the same room he spent his wedding night with Renya in 50 years ago and he was buried next to her. Forever with the princess he dared to love. Forever with the women he crawled on his stomach and climbed the tallest mountain to prove his lover for. Forever beside his Renya, who died just as their life had begun.
