Invisible Wings

This is another poem from Cade Duel. She wrote this for Angel's birthday which was yesterday May 1st.

I made the cake with tears in my eyes
and I lit the candles too
I sat at the table across from an empty chair
wanting only to see you.
The lights were out, the room was lit
but only the dim candle glowed
I longed for you're hand to hold onto
like it was a year ago

I sing happy birthday to a memory of you
to all I ever wanted in life to be
I make a wish and blow out the candles
but you're still not here with me.
and this empty room fills with shadows
and a chill enters to room on invisible wings

How did I ever think it could be a happy birthday
without my Angel and the happiness only you could bring
I opened your gift I wrapped so carfully
and I trace the gold that frames your face
It's only a picture, but it's all I have
because noone will ever take your place

This empty room filled with shadows
once lit by flickering candles glow
leaves me longing for your hand to hold onto
like it was one long, lonley year ago

I made your cake alone, with tears in my eyes
and I lit your candles too

wishing helplessly only to see you
by only the dim candle glow
and I longed to have you hold me again
just like a year ago

I sang happy birthday to the memory of you
to all I'd ever wanted our lives to be
I made a wish and blew out the candles
and you're still not here with me
I close my eyes and you fill that empty chair
I can see you in my mind
I reach out to touch my hand to yours
and find only shadows left behind
I hold your gift I gave to myself
and I trace the gold that frames your handsome face

It's only a picture, but it's all I have
For noone will ever take your place
Darkness over takes the shadows
and a chill alights on invisible wings

This day will allways be yours and I will try to remember
all the happiness only you could bring
I close my eyes once more, I hear invisible wings rustle
and see you fill that empty chair
your hand reaches out to cover mine
and in my heart, where it really matters
I know somehow, that you are there.
