Date: 5/1/2002 8:47:00 PM From Authorid: 12806 Context, context, context... AMEN!!!..... aparent contradictions lie wholly in our own lack of knowledge, missunderstanding, or erroneous preconceived ideas of what it should mean.... If a verse, or passage in the Bible goes contrary to what you believe.... Change what you believe, and you will never go wrong..... |

Date: 5/1/2002 10:05:00 PM From Authorid: 12341 This gave me much to think about, in particular the last paragragh where you state "God is not in the habit of making special revelations in today's culture." Considering that today people will believe in almost anything EXCEPT the possibility of GOD. Great post Thunderhead, your posts are always ones to think about and this one is no exception! |

Date: 5/2/2002 6:22:00 AM From Authorid: 19092 Thanks ThunderHead for informative post. I see those Bible contradiction posts all the time and pretty much stay out of the argument. Good to see a post from the other side. |
Date: 5/2/2002 6:40:00 AM From Authorid: 15394 There is one thing that I do not get.. well two actually but the one thing that everyone always quotes scripture but still doesn't answer the question... I guess God cannot stand for UNCONDITIONAL love if there are conditions put on that love, IE do this and don't do that are conditions to that love, **unless you believe the old addage "I have to love you from a distance"**... and where are the scriptures that explain where jesus was from 13 to 30?? ... there are conspiracy theories that the Vatacan has the "lost" books hidden away because man or laymen cannot understand their contents... I wonder what exactly is under there!! thanks for the post, and I do agree that things cannot be taken out of context for sake of argument, but to argue it is truth, the end all beat all truth and to use the book it self to prove that truth is a bit like three robbers stealing bunches of money and one robber splitting the money up says I get more than you two ... why they ask, and he says because I have more... you need alternative sources of back up to prove something, you cannot use what is being questioned as source of proof about itself. of course that is my humble opinion |

Date: 5/2/2002 9:09:00 AM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15033 Hi Jungabel, all I can say to that is I haven't read anywhere in the bible that argueing about God brings a person to the truth, in fact it says "where there is agreement, there I am also." I don't know if there are parts missing, because no one has seen them that's willing to prove it. A large part of finding God and the truth lies in having faith, and that faith brings us to whatever we need to know. From what I can tell, this is a test, this whole reality we've been given...a test of faith over our wills. The bible is for those that have faith in God. I am against using it to convince others they should believe it by argueing. This post is for those needing to understand how to read the bible and be sure enough about what it's saying to guard their own knowledge of it...that can be guarding from any kind of "doubt," not just the words or accusations from another human being. Many doubts about something start in one's own mind. Love ya, |

thunderhead this is a good post. However I do have one thing to say here. where you said;;" God is not in the habit of making special revelations in today's culture. When people say "God told me...", we get extremely skeptical since His entire revealed will is recorded in the Scriptures and He has not had a need to add to it since the first century A.D., I have to say::: Jn:16:13: Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. Jn:16:14: He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. Jn:16:15: All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. Jn:16:16: A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. The comforter is the Holy Spriit of God in which we are filled as you can see by the above scriputre. Jesus tells us that WHEn he was to go to the FAther, that He would send us the comforter, which is the holy spriit or holy ghost of God. It says here that the HOLY spriit will teach us all things and bring unto rememberance of all things that JESUS said, and then it goes on to say, whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. It tells us that the HOLY spirit of God will speak to us, and tell us things to come. So I'm sorry, yes, God does still talk to us today and show us things to come, by the power of His holy spirit. NOW of course lots get crazy when then hear that, but ya know, I think that is there problem. I choose to beleive in what God told me here. Great post. |
Date: 5/3/2002 5:45:00 AM From Authorid: 177 Weren't the New Testament scriptures written several decades after the death of Christ? Memories can become blurred with time as to exactly what people say and do. I believe that the earliest surviving New Testament writings date from about 2nd Century...and most of them from even later. Then it should be kept in mind that the Nicean Council in the 4th Century (?) was responsible for editing and cannonizing what makes up todays New Testament. Who knows what was edited out...or...possibly added to the texts? |
Date: 5/3/2002 5:49:00 AM From Authorid: 177 What sort of unconditional love requires conditions? Where does it say God's love is unconditional? If souls are sent to hell for not being Christians.....that seems pretty conditional to me. |

I want to address the "Unconditional Love" issue... God does NOT love everyone unconditionally... God has enemies. This has been shown time and again throughout the Old Testament... God IS a FATHER... He is a father to HIS children. Not everyone is a child of God, only those whom He has fathered... In John 3:3 Jesus said, "unless a man be Born AGAIN, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus asked the question, "can a man enter again into his mothers womb?" The answer is NO... There is a clear answer to this question in John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God... We are born of water when we come from our mothers womb. We are carried in a sac of water, and right before we are born, there is an issue of water. This is what is referred to as being born of water. The people of that time had little or no knowledge of human anatomy, but this was a simple explanation that they could understand... Every person is born of water... This does not make them a child of God. What makes someone a child of God is to be born AGAIN of the spirit. God is a spirit, and that which is born of spirit is spirit... Romans 8:16. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the CHILDREN of God: 17. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Phillipians 2: 15. That ye may be blameless and harmless, the SONS OF GOD, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; 16. Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. In 1 John 3:1 there is a definite distinction between the children of God and the rest of the world.... 1. Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. God loves HIS children unconditionally, the same way that you or I would love our own children unconditionally......... |

Date: 5/3/2002 9:20:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15033 You are entitled to the way you see it Firstborn...I can agree with what you said but I see it as relating to another topic. The above is relating to what the BIBLE tells us...the scriptures are understandable if read in the manner explained above...and the meaning of those scriptures has not changed. It's not saying a thing about the future being revealed. I am quite aware that the holy spirit is capable of revealing things to come. Thanks for commenting though sis. Love ya, |
Date: 5/3/2002 9:23:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 15033 Gormy, I will be choosing to read only the King James version of the Holy Bible. Date: 5/10/2002 2:01:00 AM From Authorid: 48769 Another great post Thunderhead. The Bible does not contradict itself as far as I know, but does in fact witness not only to our spirit but also to other scriptures, which makes it, conform to God's word that out of the mouth of two witnesses all things shall be proved. Yes many people get into trouble by only reading what they want to see and not reading things in context with all the verses around the one that they are quoting nor checking other verses that may be referenced. I find that in reading the Word, many times it says things to me that I did not see the first time that I had read or reread a particular verse and I believe that this is the Holy Spirit showing us new insights to the workings of God in our lives and answering for us questions that we may be needing or wanting answers too. The Truth is in deed in there. OrionSky |
