Should you get a ticket for going to slow when you drive ?

This one old person ( 67 years at least) was driving at 40 in a 55 mph. zone. You get tickets for speeding, so should you get them when you go too slow ? All to often, I'll be stuck behind a senior citizen who thinks that they can cut infront of everyone and drive slow for no reason at all. What do you think ?

Date: 4/30/2002 5:11:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 22721    Um, I changed the debate. Sorry!
Date: 4/30/2002 5:11:00 PM  From Authorid: 12103    I think so..because your not following the rules and can cause an accident..but i think they should make it clear HOW slow you have to be driving under the speed limit to get a ticket
Date: 4/30/2002 5:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 13119    If you drive too slow under the speed limit (tractor trailers) you have to put on your 4-ways and as soon as possible regain the proper speed. As for the people that drive too slow all the time, they can be given a ticket for slow and obstucting.
Date: 4/30/2002 5:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 42792    Since you changed your question,LOL...here is an other reply...it is illegal to drive too slow on certain highways. there is a minimum speed however, on some streets and public thoroughfares it is acceptable. Seniors are sometimes very dangerous to be sharing the road with. I think the government needs to change many laws regarding their licensing procedures for senior citizens. Some states have enacted new laws although, I feel they are still not doing enough.
Date: 4/30/2002 5:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 5252    well, i think not. because, my parents, MAKE me stay 10 miles under the speed limit, when i drive with them, and many other's do as well. for kids just starting out to drive, they have to take it slow. i'd rather be going TOO slow, than TOO fast and getting a ticket! good post
Date: 4/30/2002 5:20:00 PM  From Authorid: 17290    going too fast or slow, still either way affected the other drivers having to get out of the way or around them....etc.. love,
Date: 4/30/2002 5:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 47699    I've heard of officers issuing tickets for driving too slow but I don't think it's very common. Slow drivers are a hazard just like the ones who drive too fast are and I think that a lot more tickets should be issued. If they don't feel comfortable doing the limit, they shouldn't be on the road. That's just my opinion.
Date: 4/30/2002 5:31:00 PM  From Authorid: 24813    Well, my parents often make me try to drive 10mph OVER the speed limit (when reasonable of course). If I'm going slow on an open road, they complain I'm driving like an old person, lol. But anyway, I do believe obliviously driving excessively slow can be hazardous, as you unwittingly become an obstruction to other drivers who choose to pass you. But getting tickets for it? No thanks, I'd rather not! Once such a law is enacted, there are way too many idiot cops who would cite you regardless of circumstance (such as if you were going slow looking for an address or something). We have too many trafic laws as it is. Most important is that you simply drive using common sense, within your means of full, comfortable control. And if that sense of control only comes when going under 20mph, then for your own sake, you probably shouldn't be driving at all.
Date: 4/30/2002 5:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 6050    I think Magoo is right...You can get a ticket for those particular reasons...Isn't there also a rule..that if atleast 5 cars are behind you...ur supposed to pull over..or atleast get out of the way..It's a pain..Just yesterday...I was staying at my parent's house...I had to take my son to school 15 miles away..we were running behind.. Anyhow..i decided to take the highway..figured, less traffic..ended up getting stuck behind this one car..i was going 55 the speed limit..i wanted to pass so bad..it was frustrating..because, there was never clearance..and there were cars behind me, thinking i was the slow one..i dunno, i like to drive atleast 5 above the speed limit anything lower i feel as if i'm not getting anywhere.
Date: 4/30/2002 5:34:00 PM  From Authorid: 16916    You can get a ticket for driving to slow, it can cause an accident just as quickly as driving to fast, There are signs in MI on the freeways that say Speed Limit 65 Minimum 45
Date: 4/30/2002 5:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 6050    i also agree with Frankenstein...Another thing that bugs me is...When someone pulls out in front of you from a side street and you end up having to slam on ur breaks because, their vehicle doesn't have enough horse power to get outta the way..ugh!!!
Date: 4/30/2002 6:01:00 PM  From Authorid: 46069    they do give tickets for going to slow if it is making it unsafe for the rest of the drivers....it ha__ened to me just today....of couirse i was running late so that made me really late...
Date: 4/30/2002 6:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 24732    LOL I hope I don't get a ticket because in the mornings my car isn't warmed up. For a little while I'm going slow, but after awhile I'm back at 55 MPH.
Date: 4/30/2002 6:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 36967    Depends on where at, and the situation.

Date: 4/30/2002 7:05:00 PM  From Authorid: 19460    well if a cop sees them going way under the speed limit, they will get a ticket! I got a warning ticket one night for going 54 in a 55 mph limit! That made me soooo mad... it was dark, there was a broke down car on the side of the hwy, and on top of all of that I was driving a 4X4 truck i had never driven before... plus... it was only 1 mph slower!
Date: 4/30/2002 7:08:00 PM  From Authorid: 51049    I think they should. A person who drives too slow can be just as dangerous on the road as someone who drives to fast. Fire Cracker
Date: 4/30/2002 7:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 26227    No you shouldnt get a ticket for going to slow you should be SHOT on the spot. Man I hate getting behind slow people....I have places to go
Date: 5/1/2002 4:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 47983    Personally, I think the elders shouldn't drive at all. There should be some laws that limit the age when you need to stop driving.
Date: 5/2/2002 4:27:00 PM  From Authorid: 48129    Heck yes people who drive TOO slow should get tickets, as well as those who are driving too fast; they are both NOT following the speed limit. Driving too slow means to me like driving at least 10 miles under the speed limit. Where i live, every freakin person drives slow, and it drives me nuts, LoL There should be a job as a "Ticketer"; all they would do ALL day is give out tickets...sheesh

Date: 6/22/2002 2:07:00 PM  From Authorid: 54060    i think u should get a ticket for goin to slow also if u get one for goin to fast!..Gingie
Date: 6/10/2005 3:04:00 PM  ( Admin-DNL )   yes, because sometimes slow drivers can cause accidents as much as fast ones.
Date: 7/6/2006 4:13:00 PM  From Authorid: 63302    i think going slow is better thanfast. why single out seniors? i rather see a senior on the road than a teeny bopper doing 90!
