i've had fillings before and they don't hurt. the reason why is because they numb u with novacaine.novacaine is a drug (not 1 u get high on) that numbs u so u won't feel anything. I also have braces too. Dragon Lady |

Just remember, your not alone. We all have to go through it at some point. It wont last too long. They will novacaine you up and you'll be fine. While your getting it done, just pray and think about all the people in this world who are suffering so bad that they would gladly have a cavity rather than suffering from the pain they are going through. You know what I mean? Good Luck! I know it isnt any fun. Sorry. |

WoW, you never had covacaine before? So I guess you really dont know what to expect, huh? Im such a baby when it comes to pain and needles! You shouldve saw me having a baby! It really isnt that bad. Its a little uncomfterable, they just numb your mouth. Its just a tiny pinch, then they will let you alone for a few minuted while it numbs. You cant even feel it. And it doesnt even hurt after the novacaine wears off. You'll be fine. Hopefully we'll hear from you tommarow. Then again, by tommarow you'll be wondering what you were even worrying about. |

I just had a root canal a few weeks ago, and they numbed my mouth with the novicane, and then during the procedure, they grabbed this drill that I kid you not, felt like a motorcycle motor grinding on my tooth! dont ask me what a motorcycle motor feels like, but you really dont like that part.. The needle that they inject the novicane isn't half the size of a needle that you get a regular shot from, its a tiny needle... it hurts the most when they pull the neelde out to me... Then, after you get out, look in the mirror and try to make a kissy face... its so halarious!! The drills suck, I hate the sound of grinding anything, and the,,, nevermind... G-rated site.... LOL... Love ya tonz, good luck. |

OK i know you're nervous, but don't be. They will use this gel stuff like ora-jel to numb you up BEFORE they give you the novacaine shot, so you shouldn't even feel the shot. You may feel some pressure, but it doesn't hurt. You'll be fine, but tell the dentist how you feel right when you get into the chair, and ask for nitrous oxide (laughing gas)to help relax you. |

Just relax! Getting a cavity filled is nothing like it used to be. They don't used those big needles anymore. The ones they have now are no bigger around than your little finger. Those drills they used to use are obsolete as well. Most dentists these days use either a Black and Decker MX35 or a Sears Craftsman Hole Master. Really, there's nothing to worry about! Of course, I'm only kidding around here! Try not to worry. You'll be just fine and it'll be over with before you know it! |

I know how you feel. I'm terrified of dentists, too. I had a cavity filled a few years ago, and I was sooo scared. It really wasn't that bad, though. Just a little pince of the needle with the novacaine (I hate needles, too), and then it didn't hurt at all. Don't worry. You'll be fine. It'll be over before you know it. |

Well, it also depends on how deep the cavity is. If it's really deep you might end up needing additional work done. |

you wont even feel the needle go in hun, they wipe something on your gum and it numbs it, well thats what they do over here in Australia, anyway you may not need a needle if the cavity is not large....good luck... |

I had a LOT of dental work done last January and February. They will freeze your gums and teeth on the part where the cavity is. The whole row of teeth will be numb. Don't look at the needle. You might feel discomfort but it's fast, so don't worry. Then the dentist will use the drill to remove the dead pulp. You won't feel it. They'll place a matrix around your tooth. They may use a rubber dam, it's a piece of rubber that goes across your mouth...but it's not widely used so probably not. He/she will then place a base in your tooth followed by the actual amalgam or whatever material the filling will be. After they will floss around your tooth and use the drill to shape the filling. Maybe they'll polish the filling as well. It's all quite painless and is totally worth having it done...as dental pain is, in my book, the worst kind of physical pain. Take care and open wide...Gallytuck. |

I hate needles and all. I can tell you from experience my teeth are a pain the dentist is cool with me. I do not like doctors. If they already did X-rays. And know for sure what they are filling. They willt ake a cotton swab and run pain killer stuff on your gum and give you a shot you can't feel. Then they will drill it which u can't feel. Then they will fill it which you can't feel. And u will leave like a puffy cheeked weirdo. Breathe and think happy. You are gonna be fine~ |

no problemo-- they put in a little topicle agent (like a cream) to numb the outside of the area, and then they give you a novicaine injection, which you barely feel because the skin is already numb. Then, they wait a few minutes until your mouth is numb, and then begin to drill. You won't feel a thing-- there'll just be a funny vibration in your head. When they are finished drilling, they fill the cavity with silver, they polish the top, dry it, and then it's over before you know it. No pain afterwards, either, although your mouth will stay numb for a while. |
