Date: 4/17/2002 8:21:00 PM From Authorid: 48128 Hey sorry I am not fully understanding what you are getting at! |
Date: 4/17/2002 8:21:00 PM From Authorid: 34487 To start with... George Carlin is not "great" in everyone's eyes. Honestly, he's really not that funny. Secondly, people that make fun of religion may be just scared of it but people that make fun of God are stupid and have misplaced courage. Lastly, Eternal Damnation, is something that only God can proclaim. |
Date: 4/17/2002 8:24:00 PM From Authorid: 15070 George Carlin is a lapsed Catholic. He even went to Catholic schhols. He slams the Catholic Church, and sometimes his humor sounds like he's angry with God, himself. Maybe he is. If your Debate is "Is George Carlin forgiven?", you will have to ask God,or Goddess. They would know. But they probably wouldn't tell. |
Date: 4/17/2002 8:51:00 PM From Authorid: 48525 I do find George funny, but I can't think of him "slamming God" that I can remember, but I have heard him go about religion and being catholic, but my honest feeling on that is, if he survived being catholic, he's earned the right lol. Now before all the catholics here start marching on my doorstep, let me remind them that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and the catholic church has way more problems than they will admit to for fear of law suits, or out of shame that they knew and did nothing. At the very least, he's a catholic poking fun at catholics, not jews, wiccans, mormons, etc. ~Roaryblue |

Date: 4/17/2002 8:54:00 PM From Authorid: 24924 Most christians don't have a sense of humor. IF one is a believer, they don't get; don't understand George Carlin's humor. I think he is VERY funny. For the person who said "people who make fun of religion are scared of it" is just plain SILLY. There's an awful lot of hilarious stuff with regard to religion, and in no way do I consider myself "stupid" for poking fun at what I consider to be the utmost in stupidity: that is people who insist that THEIR god belief is off limits to humor. George Carlin is an atheist, and the only people who dislike him are the religious who don't understand his brand of humor anyway. |
Date: 4/17/2002 10:19:00 PM From Authorid: 35629 I thought the only truly unforgivable sin was denying the holy spirit and defaming it.Hmm dunno i could be wrong but that is what i was always told. |
Date: 4/18/2002 1:27:00 PM From Authorid: 47983 Sooooo.. *thinks* What the debate?...~*Jeset*~ |
Date: 4/18/2002 5:28:00 PM ( From Author ) From Authorid: 22080 no the skit that i heard was george carlin talking about how every sin is forgivable except talking trash about god or jesus or whoever i cant remember right now cause my kazaa is down |
Date: 4/18/2002 6:41:00 PM From Authorid: 43586 well, i think that him interpreting the bible and adding a commandment is pretty dumb. I interpret God and the Bible for myself. |
Date: 4/25/2002 2:52:00 PM From Authorid: 51911 i'mn a catholic, and i think george carlin is hilarious. if he doesnt like god, or the catholic religion, that his business, not mine. |
Date: 5/9/2002 10:10:00 PM From Authorid: 34487 To Thinker, in reply to my reply.... It is obvious that you think of yourself as somewhat superior to twist what I said around. I was being general with my comment. I do not feel that every joke or laugh about religion is a sin but I do feel that people who bash on God or the Bible are scared of it. I am speaking of people that do this all of the time or use this as a theme for all of their jokes. I feel that using any one subject and picking on it all of the time is boring and weak. Now maybe, you understand what my generalization meant?! |

It's "obvious" that I think of myself as "superior" just because I tell you that your comment about people who make fun of religion is "scared"!?? And just because it is "Obvious" to YOU, then that makes it true and obvious to ALL? WHY; whereever in the world do you get that I "feel superior" simply because I think that "SCARED of it" comment is just plain silly?? IT IS! That sounds like something that you learned in church or sunday school, and you are just parroting that which you have heard. Don't be so insecure about your faith. Look at the many people and or groups that Comics write and tell jokes about. What if every single person and or group they joke about told Jay Leno, Robin Williams, or George Carlin, etc..."You're just scared of it, that's why you make fun of it"??? It may be impossible for you to believe or except, but SOME people do not look at religion in the same light as YOU do; and that many DO find it hilarious. It's a big ole world; and room for lotsa different beliefs and interests, FYI. There is NO way that I "twisted" what you said. What you said was clear to me. AND, George Carlin does NOT just joke about god and religion. He jokes about EVERYTHING; nothing is off limits to him. Matter of fact, I don't know ANYONE who does "just joke about god and religion"??? Can YOU name someone who does? |
Date: 5/10/2002 6:21:00 AM From Authorid: 3125 Hi Jestr Carlin doesn't have credibility in the area of God's Word. He does so much harm. People who study God's Word can easily recognize Carlin's lack of knowledge. ((hugs)) |
Date: 5/10/2002 6:41:00 AM From Authorid: 15394 comedy picks on all kinds of human conditions/beliefs no? What is the debate? that he is funny or that he is condemned? ... God MUST have a sense of humor too!! lol Look at the ______________ he/she made, fill in the blank tooo many funny things here on earth not to have a sense of humor |
Date: 5/16/2002 8:05:00 PM From Authorid: 34487 Thinker: No, I cannot name someone that only makes jokes about religion but there are some who seem to pick on this subject far too much. I think over-kill of any kind gets very old. I am as entitled to my opinions on things as you are and if I think George Carlin isn't funny then I have a right to say it. I don't feel anyone has to or should agree with me. This is a site where people state their opinions and that is what I was doing. I am not "SILLY" as you stated. If I am then I guess I do have a sense of humor after all. You contradict yourself with these two statements. Anyway, yes I am a christian...and believe it or not, I have a great sense of humor. I just happen to think that George Carlin isn't funny with anything he talks about. I've never enjoyed his style of humor. It isn't really about his religious cracks but how some people choose one area to crack jokes about because they lack creativity. Real comics, like Robin Williams and live comedy shows like "Who's line is it," have real talent and don't need to pick on one subject more then another. |
Date: 5/16/2002 8:18:00 PM From Authorid: 24924 Here's a clue: I didn't mean "silly" as haha silly. Ok, the term most suited would be ridiculous. OK? And, AGAIN, George Carlin does NOT just joke about religion. I have also heard Robin Williams do bits about religious folks too. So there! **wonders if ANYone saw this "great sense of humor" You Choose "has"** N'yuk N'yuk! |
Date: 5/16/2002 9:52:00 PM From Authorid: 34487 Thinker: You must be very insecure to be such a defensive soul and to "pick" fights with people who are simply minding their own business and stating their opinions. I feel sorry for someone that has to put others down to make themselves feel good. good luck to you |
Date: 5/16/2002 9:55:00 PM From Authorid: 34487 Oh, another note to the Thinker: maybe you should "think" before you speak... I never said that George Carlin only bags on religion, you just said I did. You need to read everything a bit more clearly so you don't look and sound so immature. |
