Thats just the way our society is set up. Its really kinda sad. Its just like how people have babies and put the girls in pink and the boys in blue. So they fit the gender stereotypes. Thats what these gender toys are really all about, just stereotypes we place upon children and people find it a bit odd when a child doesnt want to stick to the stereotypical boy or girl. It's really stupid... I think there are actually several books about this written by some psychologists. You will see its more of society having an issue than the child. |

I just wrote a report on this very topic for my sociology class. We had to go into a toy store and observe toys for different genders. I'm pretty sure the advertising that the toy companies do has a lot to do with this. On McDonalds commerials the specifically say "Barbies for the girls and hotwheels for the boys" It's to the advantage of the companies to have gender specific toys. If there were all "gender neutral toys" they would sell less. You would think they would sell more that way, but they can target different groups of kids this way. Girls watch different tv shows than boys do, so they put different commercials on at different times. Although I'm not exactly sure how hot pink became a feminine color? It certainly is blinding when you go through the "pink ilse" in the store. |

When I was little, I didn't care for cars, trucks, G.I. Joes or any of the usual boy toys. On the same token, I had absolutely no interest in girl toys either. I always thought dolls were really creepy for some reason. I was more into rubber bugs and jigsaw puzzles and things like that. Then again, nobody ever accused me of being normal. I guess there is no explaining why people have the tastes they do and that includes kids. There's nothing wrong with your son. I guess a lot of people are too judgemental and narrow minded. They seem to think that everyone has to fit into a cookie cutter mold and if they don't, something must be wrong with them. Ignore those types, Lady Luck! |
