My sister is 30 and she was diagnosed with it when she was a teen, and because of it, I hardly see much of her at all(many years actually). She can't hold jobs and lives shelter to shelter. She goes through many months of depression then it goes away, only to come back another time. She's on medication too but I don't think it helps much. When she goes through her time of depression, she doesn't quite think straight and it can impair her thoughts and decisions. I feel awful for her, cause has she never really done anything great in her life and probably never will.. She's like a drifter in a way.. Bipolar is a horrible disorder. |
Date: 4/13/2002 5:35:00 PM From Authorid: 42024 its like their 2 different people in the same body one monment they can be happy the next they can be sad or mad.....the reason i know this is because my friends mom is like that....she said she takes her medication and is fine...all i know is she should take her medications or she can be like that |
Date: 4/13/2002 5:42:00 PM From Authorid: 15033 I was having lunch with my friend Peter when he visited here, and in walks this group of ladies with matching uniforms. I noticed later their shirts had the words, "Bi-polar Bowlers" on the backs. I don't know much about it other than my son's dad has it. He has severe mood swings without his meds. |
Date: 4/13/2002 5:44:00 PM From Authorid: 35042 That sounds very tough. I hope you are able to cope with her and she gets into some sort of pattern with the medication again... |

Date: 4/13/2002 6:04:00 PM From Authorid: 48097 I was diagnosed with this a few months ago...the best way to describe it is like being on a rollercoaster. One second everything is alright and the next you're crying your eyes out or ready to hit something. It's a never-ending battle with your own emotions. I hope this helps you out. |
Date: 4/13/2002 6:36:00 PM From Authorid: 23101 Speed you are such a kind hearted person! I don't have this. And I really don't know what it is. I will ask my mom! Thanks for posting Speed! *hugs* XOXOXO |
Date: 4/13/2002 7:04:00 PM From Authorid: 23796 She really needs to get back on her meds. If she's of her meds then that would explain the attitude difference drastically. |

Date: 4/13/2002 7:37:00 PM From Authorid: 39887 I know of a cuple of people with this and its very serious. Without medicine, their behavior is very bizzare! One lady I know got mad at her husband and drove her car into some gas pumps, luckily she was not hurt and no one else was injured but she tore up the pumps and part of the store. My nephew has it and he is 21. He has just been diagnosed in the last year. He set fires and did some other crazy stuff too. Moods swings are common in both of them but when they are on the medicine, they act normal. Its very devastating but if you think someone has it, they need to get tested so they can get the help they need. |
Date: 4/13/2002 8:17:00 PM From Authorid: 42568 My brother had this disorder. If you'd like to message me, please feel free. I'll tell you everything I know...and I'm willing to help out. I currently have two friends with this disorder, something you need to take medicine for...and you'll have it for the rest of your life. |
Date: 4/13/2002 8:41:00 PM From Authorid: 50474 my sister is bipolar, and they have terrible mood swings, when off of their meds w/o dr.s consent can be very dangerous to themselves, they will act convusivly and unlike themselves, with huge moodswings, really strange, sometimes childish behavior, always/never sleeps/eats, very sesitive and aggrivated, look it up on the net or msg me if u want, she needs to take those pills to help her stay sane-may |
Date: 4/14/2002 4:02:00 AM From Authorid: 2420 Speed, I know alot about this horrible imbalance. Tell your friend to go to www.about.com and type in bipolar disorder, theirs much to learn there. I have a little advice for you, always stand by your friend NO matter what. This disorder is like author 48097 say's, it's like being on a rollercoaster and having no control most of the time. Good Luck |
