Listen, I know exactly how you feel! Metallica is my favorite band also. I felt the same way when I tried to play the guitar. I'm 15 now, and have been playing for almost 6 years. Hang on, never let go! Pratice will get you where you need to be! Keep trying the guitar, but develop your drumming abilities also. While guitar may not be your "best" instrument, drums could be "your thing". Its like me...I can play anything I pick up! But I devote my full talent to the guitar! Keep at it! Love, |

Well just the fact that youve been trying for several years proves you have the motivation. Being in the music industry is hard! Im an aspiring singer, and the farthest Ive come so far in 3 or 4 years is singing one chorus on a local artist's cd. So being discouraged is understandable, but hang in there! good luck |

I play a few instruments myself. I would love to be better at it, but I too lack the motivation to learn scales and arpeggios and all of that other stuff. I'm on a plateau right now and I'm not really playing anything at all. It's all about motivation. You don't have to have amazing chops to write touching music. There are so many songs you could write with only a handfull of chords. Just go with what you feel. For songwriting questions and pretty much any tips about music check out www.musesmuse.com . It's a great site with many experienced columnists in a wide variety of subjects about music and the creation of. Take care and happy picking...Gallytuck. |

Thank you. I've tried to write songs, I don't have the talent for that either. I just can't come up with the words. My wife is the writer. She can come up with some amazing lyrics. I've tried to put those words to song, only to come up with bupkus. Thanks anyway. |
