Here are some Blaising ideas for you on human's natural condition!--Resilient One

I'm reading a book by Blaise Pascal and it's opened my eyes to some things and kind of shown me what I've known all along about the human condition.

What I'm going to type here is in the context of Pascal showing how humans focus on the insignificant and ignore what really matters.

Pascal says, "Man's sensitivity to trivia (not Jeopardy and Millionaire, but frivolous stuff) and his insensitivity to matters of major importance, reveal he has a strange condition."

Later he illustrates this concept with" Suppose the preacher appears, however, and it happens that he is afflicted with a hoarse voice and looks odd, badly shaved by his barber and perhaps unwashed. I will bet you that the judge will not keep his solemn demeanor in spite of whatever wonderful truths the preacher may be proclaiming."

This was stated after showing a judge is regarded and respected not because of what is inside of him, but because he has the robe and looks official.

So what do ya think? Does the fact we pay so much attention to frivolous stuff show we have a problem? If we have a problem should it be fixed? If so how?

Date: 4/6/2002 6:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 3321    I tend to respect judges because of what they must do as judges, and the type of judgments they make, rather than their robes. Maybe that's because I hope to be one someday after a lengthy law career...lol. Anyways, true in some cases. Where the heck did u disappear to R1? Haven't seen you around in a while!
