What If We Weren't Allowed To Put Our Name In The Title Of Our Posts???---babiebec ;) (LOL)

I was looking down the main page and caught myself looking for authors that I know so that I could check out what they posted today. Then I got to thinking about all the people that have been complaining about not getting replies, not being popular and silly stuff like that. I realized that some of what they say is true---most of us, I am sure, look for the author that we know. And because of that, we might be missing out on some really good posts by people that we have never met. Then I got to thinking (some more)--what if we were not allowed to put our names in the title of our stories?? I mean wouldn't that make it fair for everyone?? No one would know who posted something until they clicked on it and went inside.

Are you someone that puts your name in your title? I am, as you already noticed! LOL Does this idea bother you? Would you be afraid that you would get less replies if you didn't add your name? AND--what is your reason for adding your name (if you do)?

The only thing that keeps this from working would be the fact that a lot of us put our name on our title so that people we know can find them. Ya know, all you have to do is type the name and all their stories come up. Thats the reason why I add my name. If it wasn't for that, I would be game for this idea. What about you??

Does anyone have any idea how we could work it so that someone could find our stories easy without the adding of our name?

babiebec

Date: 4/4/2002 8:30:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    Yes I put my name in my title....and no I don't think that we shouldn't be allowed to...if people complain about replies they need to 1. write interesting stuff 2. put their name in their title 3. make lots of replies so they are known.....
Date: 4/4/2002 8:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 24732    I usually don't put my name on my stories so people who don't like me here will read them not knowing it's me. Then at the end of the post I write (<>..<> But I was thinking about putting my little alien symbol thing on the tittles of my stories because it looks cool.
Date: 4/4/2002 8:32:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 32763    I know i cheated ice angel! I know i do it. but only so people that i know can find my stories. if it wasn't for that----i wouldn't.
Date: 4/4/2002 8:32:00 PM  From Authorid: 27403    I usually put my name in my title, but I think not putting our names would be a good idea. Never thought about it before! Love and Light
Date: 4/4/2002 8:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 12103    wow i really know what you mean..i mean obviously if ginger or radman didnt put their name after a story they wrote it probley wont get as many replies...i know stories i put my name by gets more repiles then stories i dont..i guess your friends just see your name and are interested in waht you have to say.
Date: 4/4/2002 8:35:00 PM  From Authorid: 49101    But I like being able to see what my friends and family have posted here at USM. I was newbie only a couple of short months ago, and my stories didn't get FLOCKED by replies at first either! It just means people gotta be patient and make friends! I have so many friends here now that it is AMAZING! And many of them are Veteran USMERS. So, those who are complaining need to just stop it, and make some friends! You make friends by replying to other peoples posts, and realizing that you are not the center of the universe! I am sorry, it just really ticks me off when people bring up the whole popularity thing. It is the INTERNET for pittys' sake! *PANT PANT*, ok, I'm sorry, just needed to finally get that out in the open...
Date: 4/4/2002 8:36:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 32763    ok becky so what you are saying then is that you look for the stories with the names you know? I mean that is what you basically said in number 2 and 3. And a lot of people that don't add their name do write interesting stuff. We might just be missing it because we are to busy looking for the authors we know. be honest.
Date: 4/4/2002 8:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 16845    I admit I read stuff friends post if their name is on it...but I read far more of those who don't have names in the title.....I read what catches my eye with the title....if I see something by say ladyluck for example....if the title doesn't appeal I have passed it....*Shrugs* I just think those who complain about the lack of replies know what they can do to increase them, there's no need to change policies...
Date: 4/4/2002 8:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 24732    I think it would be better if we didn't put our names on our posts. Then we would read only stories of our interests. A lot of good stories get looked over because they don't have a well known person's name on them. The only reason people who are popular would want to put their names on them is because if they write a stupid story they will still get lots of replies.
Date: 4/4/2002 8:42:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 32763    Hey, first off, just so you all know.....i'm not whinning!! I just had this thought and posted it to see what you all thought. and i think if we are all honest....the people that do put their name on their posts that would be considered "popular" do get more looked at then those that don't put their name on it. if the truth hurts, or makes you mad...sorry. but maybe thats something to think about. and NO i am NOT trying to stir up the whole popularity thing. just pointing out a fact.
Date: 4/4/2002 8:42:00 PM  From Authorid: 19273    I never look for "authors I know". It's the title of the story that catches my eye. I just put my name in the title in case I forget to put it at the end of my stories and the repliers don't know what to call me. And I don't think we shouldn't be allowed to put our usernames in the titles...there's no reason for not allowing it. People who aren't "popular" will be eventually, though I see no reason to worry about it.
Date: 4/4/2002 8:43:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 32763    exactly life form!!! thats what i am saying.
Date: 4/4/2002 9:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 24963    i couldn't care less. Yes i put my name in my posts just because i feel like it(if i couldn't I don't care). I don't look or not look at a post just because of the name on it. I look at a post because it sounds interesting to me. Its not my fault that some people are biased and will only read posts that are written by specific people. If people whine about thier posts not getting read or replied to, then either change the title to something interesting or make the post something interesting(or both in some cases), very simple.
Date: 4/4/2002 9:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 35629    Nope i have not that i know ever put my name on a post.No reason i just post it and hope lmao. Now as for the number of replies i get it does not really bother me at all.If one or two read it then i am satisfied that someone at least read it.hehehe I am not that hard to please i guess.I do not see a problem with it at all and if i am rambling and repeting myself and not making any sense it is because my kiddos are driving me insane heheh sorry.
Date: 4/4/2002 9:42:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 32763    LOL nightmare gal!! you cracked me up! i was all there with you until the very end. and then it was like you jumped of the deep end!!! LOL i wasn't expecting that at all!
Date: 4/4/2002 9:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 11348    I don't usually put my name up on my stories... I'm not sure why. But I think that is a really really good idea! If everyone would just put their names in their posts rather than at the end, the whole popularity issue wouldn't be half as bad and we'd get the true effect of each story rather than the ones we're familiar with. Good suggestion!

Date: 4/4/2002 9:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 35629    lmao well who said going insane is easy hehee it tends to make the mind wander so much.Oh yeah i think they are conspiring agaisnt me in thier room i hear whispers.Oh they are so bad.lmao
Date: 4/4/2002 9:47:00 PM  From Authorid: 9130    I always put my name on my posts. i hope they will always allow us to do that.
Date: 4/4/2002 9:50:00 PM  From Authorid: 21867    ...well, when I walk into a Public Library I tend to look for Authors I have read before and know have written things I have enjoyed previously. How and then I might be a little adventurous and have a look around the shelves to find something that interests me by an Author I haven't heard of before. Imagine is all the books in a library had the Authors names removed...wouldn't happen...so why have it here...
Date: 4/4/2002 9:51:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 32763    LOL nightmare gal! yep kids are great at ganging up on you!!
Date: 4/5/2002 3:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 33925    I always put my name in my titles..that way people WILL read my stories...I admit it! LOL..and I am also one that will read things from familiar authors, BUT I dont just stick to them...I try to read anything that catches my attention...xoxo
Date: 4/5/2002 4:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 30743    I agree with Agent Smith!!! Great Analogy there, Love and BIG MONKEY HUGS!!!
Date: 4/5/2002 3:52:00 PM  From Authorid: 5940    I'm with Agent Smith. And as a side note, it pays to advertise.
Date: 4/13/2002 5:24:00 PM  From Authorid: 23101    I sometimes go to Rdaman and Gingers stories and they didn't sign there names, and some stories have like five comments. Then the ones they do have there names on has 100 and something replies. Nice Post Babei Cue and nice point! XOXO
Date: 4/15/2002 9:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 48525    Um, use the "search stories" feature on the left under the categories? That should be helpful in locating particular authors. ~Roaryblue
Date: 4/10/2003 3:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 52155    I put Radman's name in the title of my posts. Ok, I don't really, but maybe I should. hmmmmmmmmm
Date: 4/10/2003 9:33:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 32763    lol eddo. um maybe you shouldn't!
