Ever wanted to be a teacher? Perhaps just tell me what you think of something I make?
Well, here's your chance! I wrote a report on the Semana Santa festival and I'd like someone to check it for me. Here it is:
Semana Santa The Semana Santa festival is almost here! Are you ready? Through the entire week the streets, bars, and buildings with be filled with villagers and parades. "Semana Santa involves the marching in procession of brotherhoods of the church and penitents, followed by elaborate floats on which sit seventeenth century images of the Virgin or Christ. For months beforehand, the bands practice their short, fervent flamenco style hymns about the Passion and the Virgin's sorrows throughout the city." Through the celebration processions leave churches all over the city starting early afternoon going through the city and back to their final resting place many hours later. Good Friday morning is the climax, when the procession leaves the churches at midnight and move through the town for most of the night. The highlight is the arrival at the cathedral. On the Thursday, the local women wear black, and make sure you don't wear T-shirts, it's considered disrespectful. "Without doubt the local heroes of the night are the lads that carry the thrones. Always hidden away in Seville, but you might catch a glimpse when they pop out for a well-earned drink." The festival usually starts on a Saturday and runs nine days to the following Sunday night. The next celebrations should begin April 16th 2002, April 29th 2003, April 27th 2004, April 12th 2005, and April 25th 2006.
