You are assuming that our government is solely responsible for our children's education. Education starts at home. If the parent's are not willing to get involved, then they should not depend on the schools and the government to do it all for them. |

Yes, the teachers need to have better pay but we should also focus on the parents BEFORE the children start school... Statics show that a persons behaviors etc... are determined by the time they reach age 5. I think that we need to educate our new parents etc.. Especialy now that there are 13 year old mothers! Great Topic willow!!! |

I believe what u say is true, but the fact is that u can not trust these people totally, that is why parents need to thorouly check out the establishment. The saying goes you get what u pay for. So f we want our kids to have quality education I believe they should enroll in a private school or home school. That s one hing the clinton administration is doing which is awesome, giving low income families vouchers for private school, that is so cool! But as warroir said the most important school is the one at home. I believe the parents should be held responsible, the school is not a parent, they don't teach kids right from wrong, yet alot of parents think it is perfectly fine that they aren't there for there children after schol. tsk tsk |

I, too, agree with Warrior.. it is up to the PARENTS to instill the desire for schooling into our kids... and make them realize how very important education is. If we cant afford to send our kids to college, then we should try to instill them working HARD in school to qualify for a schlorship.. The government is only concerned with being fair to those who cant get there by themselves.. Great post |

I dont think its so much that teachers need a raise on the paychecks as when this nation gave groups of teachers the regular high school test, most of them flunked it. I think that the nation has did a good job in dumming up this nation. a stupid nation is a nation under control. |

Goodness, the school systems already spend on average, $9000.00 per year on each student. Their is a break-down somewhere in the system. I think it is up to the parents, I really believe that is where the problem lies. Parents not supporting the teachers, parents laying their problem children at the teachers feet and saying "here teach them", but don't bother me. I just don't see the government doing a very good job at replacing a parent.. |

When you become a Mother, just don't turn what is suppose to be your Job, over to a Government to do it for you, and then get mad cause he don't. You trust in someone else to do your Job, then it is not always gonna be how you wonted it done. Ever heard the saying.., If you want things done right then you got to do it yourself? I feel thus should be applied here as well. BTW, thats just "MY" oppinion. It is a parents responsibility to raise their children with moral values that will keep them out of those prisons you speak of. |

Notice how politicians always make claims about how much they are going to improve education, but never say anything about pork barrel spending. Why? Because they like it. Instead of taking money from unecessary causes and using it to fund education, they get all NEW money, which creates a pull on the economy but STILL isn't enough to effect a dramatic improvment in education. So, in short, everything goes in the crapper. I love this country, but we are in sore need of some radical reformations. |

Just for reference, pork barrel spending for 2001 alone totalled $18.5 billion. George W. has promised - and we all know what a promise from a Bush is worth - to reduce this number by $4.3 billion in 2002. I'm no math whiz, but that's still $14.2 billion that could be helping fund our, excuse me for saying so, pathetic public education program - not to mention the pressing matter of our $5.81 trillion national debt - but I guess Airforce One needed a new deck of gold playing cards. I'm about ten seconds away from doing a post on this, if I can get all my info in order. |
