Cuban Muslim Treatment

  Author: 28457  Category:(Human Interest) Created:(3/10/2002 10:05:00 PM)

The Bob Lonsberry column pretty well sums up my feelings on the Cuban Muslim prisoner thing. Your mileage may vary but I thought It good enough to pass along.

A LESSON ON HOW TO TREAT WAR PRISONERS

Apparently, when the big Chinook kicked off, the SEAL fell out. A 32 year old guy named Neil Roberts. A petty officer first class, one of the toughest in the American armed forces in the back of a big twin-rotor helicopter that was taking fire.

And he went out the side. Nobody's exactly sure how. But there's a lot of movement and a lot of wind and a lot of gravity. And when they got close to base and did the head count they were one shy.

That's Afghanistan.

Which is a long way from Cuba.

Where a hundred and more captured Al-Quaeda prisoners sit in cells waiting for lunch. A good muslim lunch designed to incorporate their traditional foods and to be respectful of Islam's dietary guidelines. Just like breakfast and supper. They eat good there, and most of them have put on weight.

And most of them have been through the camp infirmary, a fully functioning Army field hospital where they receive the same medical care offered members of the American military. In fact, in addition to treating any injuries sustained in their capture, American specialists have also treated orthopedic and cosmetic injuries sustained in battle months and years ago.

Al-Quaeda detainees at Guantanamo Bay have received the best of American medical and dental care--for free--being given procedures and treatment simply unavailable in their native lands.

And they've been given a Muslim chaplain, flown in especially for them, and copies of the Koran, and a big sign points the direction to pray toward Mecca and the five-time-a-day Islamic call to prayer is played on the camp loudspeaker.

That's what's happening in Cuba.

And yet, activists and officials from around the world have publicly condemned American treatment of the Al-Quaeda men captured in combat. Muslim governments, our European allies, American leftist groups and Amnesty International-types have all bitterly accused the United States of being inhumane. Some have claimed there should be a United Nations condemnation, many have called for international inspectors to go in.

The call has been loud, almost deafening, as the world has condemned and cursed the way Al-Quaeda fighters have been treated in captivity by Americans.

That's in Cuba.

Which is a long way from Afghanistan.

Where one of those Prowler unmanned surveillance planes say Petty Officer Roberts come out of the helicopter, and lie there injured but alive and conscious. The bigwigs saw this, live, back at headquarters.

And they also saw the three Al-Quaeda guys come out of the bush and grab him. He was their prisoner. Captured in battle. And they grabbed him and dragged him and took him away.

And then, it seems, they beat him.

And executed him.

They shot him to death. Bang, bang. A wounded man. A detainee. No medical care, no food, no holy book, no chaplain. Just a bullet.

Which has produced silence on the part of the world's activists.

Not one word.

Apparently it's ok to shoot a wounded prisoner, but if you take him to a hospital and treat his injuries and feed him, you've gone to far. Apparently killing an American detainee is acceptable, while coddling an Al-Quaeda detainee is not. The same people who have seen a war crime in the treatment of terrorists are unperturbed be the slaughter of a prisoner of war.

We treat them with caring and compassion, and we get cursed. They treat us with barbarism and butchery, and they get blessed.

And that's not right.

Critics of the American detention of Al-Quaeda terrorits in Cuba aren't concerned about those terrorists, and they don't give two hoots about human rights. What they want to do is attack America, any way they can. The great many people who hate the American people and culture have rallied to the defense of the Cuba detainees.

And had nary a word of critism for the pigs who executed Neil Roberts in cold blood.

This war is about good versus evil--no matter what you hear. The forces of light are tackling the forces of darkness. Civilization is taming savagery.

And Neil Roberts gave his life in that cause.

And, fortunately for them, the Al-Quaeda detainees in Cuba were captured by men instead of beasts.

Date: 3/10/2002 10:14:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    I agree. Just posted something similar bcause I get sick of the double standard.
Date: 3/11/2002 12:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 177    As far as I care the Taliban prisoners can starve them selves to death. My heart is not exactly bleading.
Date: 3/11/2002 12:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 177    ....for every innocent, defensless American, civilian or warrior who is killed....I care not if a Al Qaibe soldier recieves a bullet in the back of the head.
Date: 3/11/2002 4:15:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    ***CLAPPING HANDS MADLY****This is excellent!!! We are treating the Al-Quaeda prisoners as we should..Which will be cold comfort for any of our people captured. Funny how we hear nothing but silence from the do-gooders of this world..
Date: 3/11/2002 5:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 16721    Author 28457, Sorry to Say that to you, Anyone can say anything about what is happening in Guantanamo or in Afganistan, no one is allowed to be there except Americans , Niether the British Nor the French who are participating in this war are allowed to be in Guantanamo. Presedent Bush himself have said many times to all the world as well as Colen Poul that those presoners will not be treated as war presonners. Now you want us to be believe that those personers are treated better in Guantanamo???!!! because of what Neil Robert said ??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is far away from reality. You should look at what is happening in this war from all sides and not depend on what one man can say. Why you didn't ask your self this question , if they where treated better , Why they don't allow reprters to go in and show how Americans are treating those presonners.???? Till today the only thing that the World have Seen from Guantanamo is how they take the presonners from the plain with tight chains on their hands and their legs to the presion. You think they will bring them from Afganistan to Guantanamo to feed them and treat them nicely????? America went to Afganistan and boombed there even the red cross more than twice with no solid evidence that can be accepted by the american low against Al Quaeda. Americans will not treat them like presoners because they want them to speak and tell Where possible to find Usama bin Laden. The one who is still a suspect infront of the American law it self. I Was very happy When I Saw that Jewish Lowyer with long hair on CNN behaiving in real Wisdom. I thik he is a Man, A very brave and wise Jewish Man who is honest to himself as a lower and as a Jew. The whole action was wrong from the beginning, they should have waited and found who was really behind that attack. They straight away went there to Afganistan booming the place without caring that there are innocent people who have no relation are going to die. By doing this America is like who ever have blown up the trade centers killing innocent people for no reason. Now everyday as a result of this war many Americans are being killed by Taliban and Al Quaeda. We thought that We won this war when things were sattled down in Kabul, and America announced its victory in its war against taliban al Quaeda. Two weeks ago, the War became very active again resulting in killing many solders. yesterday 400 American solders left Gardees where the war is happening. Also 1500 solders arrives in Kabul yesterday , can you tell me for what ?? What have happened to the solders who where there before.???? Where are they so they can continue the fight these small troops. Do you believe that one or few Solders die every month.???? tis will not be a war.the Media is playing a vital role In hiding the reality. The solders are being killed, and they need back up before things go totally out of control. Look my friend, this war is against the people who won the 20 years war against the Soviet Union, I and any true american knows what was the Soviet at that time. They new how to put that red Solder down, they never gave up. Now americans are going by themselves to that land where Soviet Union lost its War, it was the grave of the Soviet Union, the Chinese and all who tried to take over thier country in the past. What i want to say that this war will stay for long and its never easy to be finished so quick, just think about this. two months Ago, Gardees where Anaconda operation is taking place were boombed with the same planes the Same mountain trying to hit the same target, just look how today is similar to yestreday. I personally see that the war will last for long because those people are not an easy target to be hunted by plains or normal solders.I wish from god that this war will have a good ending.
Date: 3/11/2002 5:33:00 AM  From Authorid: 22852    Great Post! I can't say anything to top it. Big Hugs
Date: 3/11/2002 5:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    Obviously you have not been listening to the President author 16721. No one has ever said that this war was going to be over quickly. He has said it may even outlast his term. It isn't surprising that you thought this would be over fast since many Americans are use to quick self-gratification. As for this being the "Soviet graveyard". Well the Soviets had several things against them. First, America was supporting the Afghan fighters by supplying them with weapons. Secondly they did not have the support of ANY Afghan tribes. Most of the Al-Quaeda fighters are not Afghans, they are Arabs from other countries. Many Afgans (like the Northern Alliance) want them destroyed as much as we do. There have been many observers from other countries in Cuba and from the Red Cross. In fact each Prisoner has been assigned a Represenative to hold their wittle hand. British Prisoners have not complained of treatment though they have complained about being there period. The loss of life in our military is awful. My husband is in the Army and has a pretty good chance of eventually going some place for this war. Casualties in war are to be expected and it shows someone like bin Ladan and anyone who chooses to follow in his footsteps that, yes America is serious about this. There is no moral equvilance between us and those that choose to blow themselves up along with innocent civillians, I understand that, do you?
Date: 3/11/2002 6:58:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 28457    Everyone is entitled to their opinion. You say that this prisoners in Cuba are being treated bad, ok maybe they are, but they are still alive. What about Neil Roberts who didn't come home. What about Daniel Pearl. What about all the others who lost their lives defending the very freedom you enjoy here. I have a brother in the military, so don't begin to tell me how ignorant I am because of one article. My brother is seeing it in reality. All around him. Give me a break. Who cares if the US has the prisoners in shackles. I still say, they should consider themselves lucky that they are alive. They came here to the US and attacked thousands of innocent people and killed thousands of them. And for what some stupid idea about God or Alla telling them to kill innocent people because they were evil. Give me a break. I'm still wondering whose more ignorant, you or them. Wake up. Here is the US being careful not to insult anyone when they decided to go to war and name the war. Who in the Al-Quaeda said lets becareful when we hijack the planes make sure their are no innocent people on board. And you sit there telling me that the prisoners in Cuba are in handcuffs and shackles and are not being treated well. I'm sorry but Who cares.
Date: 3/11/2002 9:56:00 AM  From Authorid: 19173    Cuba is a country club for these people. I think they would much rather be there than in Afghanistan right now. While everyone else is complaining about their treatment. They are probably very content hanging around there being feed and pampered.
