“Lovely isn’t it?” Asked Mom.
Lovely didn’t describe it. Like any mansion, this was more like a castle.
The beautiful green grass was freshly cut while a garden stood planted into it with varieties of flowers, such as roses, lilacs, and tulips. A beautiful stone fountain, in the shape of a naked boy with a leaf covering his middle, stood next to the garden as it spit water out, from it’s mouth, into the puddle of fresh blue water. The mansion was very big with crystal dark stone. The front had big windows; each with shiny glass and beautiful balconies attached to them. A big stone door stood with one of them old-fashioned door knocks.
I felt like I was in a different century. It’s absolutely amazing how a person can actually live this great life. And to think, I was going to live this life with Mom. We have never been what you called rich, with a big fancy house and all. But once Grandma and Grandpa had given us the old mansion, it sure felt like we were rich. It was nice. But aside all of that, I still felt empty and lonely. Who knew moving would be so hard?
I sighed. “Yes it is.”
Mom looked at me as if she had read my mind and put her arms around my shoulders. “Honey I know how you feel. Leaving everyone was hard enough for me to. But there will be others you know. We all make new friends. Before you know it, you’ll be meeting new people and it will feel just like home again,” She glanced at the old mansion. “Only bigger.”
I smiled and nodded. “Very big.” We both stared at its unique beauty for a moment and finally went in.
The inside was incredible. It was like being in a late eighteenth-century ballroom. I could almost hear the orchestra music in my head while visioning the crowds of people, dressed very Victorian like, dancing all around. The floor and walls were all tiles of shiny blue crystal. I could almost see my reflection off of them as if they were mirrors. Now it was like I didn’t have to use a bathroom to get all ready for something. I could just look off of the polished tiles, while doing my make-up and hair for school or some kind of special occasion and be able to be out of there in no time.
The left side of the staircase was obviously the living room. It consisted of old-fashioned ugly furniture. The furniture faced a fireplace with the locked cage.
“Wow. I have never dreamed of living in a place like this,” Mom said as she brushed against the reflecting tiles of the walls with her fingers. “Only I remember once, when I was 6, I wanted to be like Cinderella when I got older. I wanted to marry a prince and live in a pretty castle. Then I would want to be able to wear that fancy ball dress and go to balls.” She turned and chuckled. “Silly, ain’t it?”
I smiled and shook my head. “No, not silly at all. In fact I used to hope the same thing.” We both looked at each other and laughed.
“Well, lets go take another tour like we did yesterday," Said Mom.
But something stopped me. The room started to get colder all of a sudden. I looked around to see if any windows were open.
Wait a minute… that’s not right… it’s summer… summers are supposed to be warm, not cold… how can it be cold? I was just about to catch up with Mom, who was in front of me, when I heard a high pitched scream in the distance...
