I used to listen to the old kind of alternative music, Bush, Alanis what ever her last name is, Our Lady Peace and others... But then I found grunge rock, so I don't listen to alternative anymore. Especially bands like Linkin Park and Nickleback (who really do suck) Why don't you try listening to bands with less offensive lyrics. Not to force anything on you, but Alice in Chains and Sound Garded are great bands with excellent guitarist, plus I haven't ever noticed anything very offensive in the lyrics.  |

there's nothing wrong with linkin park because on their album there is not one cuss word and it is not offensive...and what is wrong with staind and how is that offensive when most of their music is about how life/love sucks? and as for nickleback..they suck so i wouldn't defend them...i agree with the parents that you shouldn't listen to nickleback! they are a bad role model!!!! *rolls eyes* yea yea..alright nickleback is aight but i can't stand their music...nothing wrong with alternative music..there are worse out there |

well most of alternative music like the examples hades had mentioned are not offensive at all...now yes i will say there are music that are offensive..but the ones he has mentioned..are not offensive at all...and as for the volume thing..you should talk about that to your son...and what is the music that he is listening to that YOU think is offensive? |

There is nothing wrong with any sort of music! I personally love hard rock (Tool/Deftones/Korn), so I am totally on your side.. But, I do think the Nickleback songs: "Never Again", and "Little Friend" would be VERY creepy coming from an eight year old.. lol.  |

Pixie Angel, he neglected to mention that he also listens to Eminen, and I am sure that even you will agree that some of the lyrics are not suitable for an 8 year old to hear! As for the volume, he is free to play the rest of his music as loud as he wishes unless he is annoying the neighbours, that would be anti-social behaviour. |

alright i will agree that eminem is a bad influence and that his lyrics are really offensive..but can't someone have a right to listen to whatever they want to? the volume thing is a problem yes..so he should put the volume down..or listen to headphones and put the volume sky high or whatever..as long as it wouldn't bother anyone else in the house....??? |

well i have to agree with you that those are GREAT!! bands, but i also have to say that i understand the fact that some of it may be offensive to young ears...not so much the bands you mentioned, except maybe nickelback sometimes, but a lot of alternative (do you listen to punk? best type of music, in my opinion...) can be really abrasive, and vulgar, ESPECIALLY to someone that's only eight...sorry about that...oh and your mom is really cool for listening to stuff like that, so don't get too down on her for it...there's nothing wrong with garage music  much love *melancholy_spirit13*  |
