You definitely have a program that is automatically dialing the internet. Do you have Morpheus? That one will do it. I can't imagine why the isp is telling you this. You're paying for it so they have no say. |

Turn them off? That's the simplest explaination. Secondly, do you have ICQ/MSN Messenger/Yahoo Messenger/AOL Instant Messenger or anything like that? They randomly try to connect and that sometimes engages the dail-up. Just make sure those programs are SHUT DOWN, or even better, turn your computers OFF. |

Do you have a program in there that goes to automatically check for updates at certain times? It might be something with that... but shut-down or un-plug sound like simple solutions |

check your e-mail connection settings, too.... under "mail delivery" on the "customize" tab under "tools" make sure that the box that says "Automatically connect to check for new messages" under "dial-up options" is unchecked... |

This has happened to me numerous time. It is a flaw in the operating system. You either need to shut the computer off or upgrade to the latest windows operating system to get rid of the problem. |

I personally think that (as previousely stated) an application such as morpheous, bearshare or one of a hundred other suspects is dialling out. The suggestion to unplug the modem is a good quick fix and if you need any more help in tracking the application down try pressing "CTRL+ALT+DEL" once, and see what applications are running, make a list and post it on here (or you can pm me) and I'll try to help if you wish. All the best. |

Like the others said, you probably have a program that is dialing the internet on it's own. Until you figure out which one is doing this I would just turn off the main power at night, or unplug the modem line from the computer over night. What I don't understand is why the ISP server would care if your computer is dialing at night. It shouldn't make any difference to them. If they do disconnect you just get a different one. ***Shelly*** |
