This is an improvised story, because I just sort of have this idea in mind just now and wanted to convert it into a short story, I hope you like it.
Matthew Summer was a best selling horror novelist. He was rich and lived in his condo beside the beach. He used to have a girlfriend named Alison, she used to live with him in his condo. They would walk along the sandy beach at night, they'd often sleep under the stars and the bright moon. They would wake up with golden sand upon their backs, the sun beaming at them, smiling at them...almost. Then Alison started swimming in the waters at night, the waves were mild but Matthew still told her not to. His fear of sharks were great, he wouldn't even go in the beach waters in daytime when more people are in it, nevermind the night when the ocean looks even darker with the black clouds above and waves so dark it looks like blue ink. Still, Alison insisted she wanted the excitement. She died that night, she'd gone too far out into the water, and ten minutes later when Matthew searched for her, he saw nothing out there but the darkness. Matthew desperately searched the waters despite his fear of sharks, the further he swam the more hopeless he got. He knew deep inside there was no hope. She'd either drowned or consumed by a shark. Later, the police told him that there wasn't anyone in the waters but him. They couldn't find the body of his girlfriend, but nor could they could find any peices of arms or fingers...a shark's impact. The police told him she'd probably drowned. Matthew didn't believe it, Alison was a great swimmer. Even in a storm, she would've survived. Three weeks later he was sitting in his condo thinking, he hasn't been able to write any new story and his publishers were getting annoyed. He stood up and opened the fridge and saw that he didn't have any food left. "Oh, great", he muttered. He haven't gone out in weeks and his food supplies are running out. "Now I'm gonna starve to death," he said banging the door shut. He was hungry and angry at the same time. Everytime he walked into a corner, he bumped into a memory of Alison. He decided to go into town and get the supplies that afternoon. As he did, he also got to a bar and drank. He remembered talking to a girl beside him, she was pretty...not as pretty as Alison, with her long black hair and round green eyes. The girl beside him spoke to him many times, but he was so drunk he couldn't say anything. Finally she got up and began to leave. "Wait," Matthew moaned. The girl turned back to him and smiled. Matthew reached for her hand, somehow it felt just like Alison's. The girl leaned closer to him and kissed him on the forehead. She took a peice of paper out of her purse and wrote something on it, then she placed it beside him. She left the bar a few seconds later and Matthew blacked out. He returned to his condo later that night, he got outside to the beach. The darkness of the night loomed over him as he walked slowly along the sand. The air smelled sweet, a very nice fragrant. He looked across the dark waters of the oceans and knew that his dead girlfriend was somewhere in there. He made his way slowly towards the ocean. Somehow his fear of sharks disapeared, perhaps it was because it no longer mattered. In a few minutes the waters was above his waist. The water was cold, yet it felt as if Alison's spirit was with him, he still felt warm inside. "Alison," he whispered. "I'm going to sleep beside you tonight". Matthew dove into the waters and swam. The water was freezing but he kept on swimming. He swam under the water until his lungs burned. Soon, he blacked out. Matthew woke up on the beach, somehow he had floated back to the shore. He didn't know how that could possibly have happened. He thought about it and he decided that Alison didn't want him to die with her and sended him back to the shore. He thought that was absurd, but he believed it. If she wanted him to live, he thought, then he will. He reached into his pocket and found the note the girl gave him at the bar, the ink was mushed up. Maybe it was because Alison didn't want him to date another woman, and if she didn't want him to, then he won't. He'd promised himself that, and turned towards the ocean. "I promise," he said softly. He believed that some things didn't really change, he still woke up on the sand with the sun beaming at him and Alison. Oh yes, he smiled at the sunlight which shined across the blue ocean where Alison was, and always would be.
