Should we have to pay taxes on things that we already own-- like houses, cars...etc?

I say no.

Date: 1/27/2002 8:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 4614    A car tax? Property taxes are way too high here, but I don't mind it...Most people have money taken out of escrow from their mortgage accounts, ya hardly notice it...
Date: 1/27/2002 8:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 45551    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....heck no if we own it there is no way they should be able to tax us on it!!!!the government will do about anything to get thier paws on the money we worked hard to earn, mean while they sit on the hill and give themselves raises every 6 months for doing nothing but finding new ways to tax us
Date: 1/27/2002 8:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 11528    I agree, NO, Hey Dizzy, no matter where You live in the states believe me Your paying a lot less than us Canadians. Bye for now. Enki
Date: 1/27/2002 8:23:00 PM  From Authorid: 24924    You talking about personal property taxes, right? IT STINKS. And, you pay more or less depending on the area you live in. The BULK of my personal property taxes go to the R-7 school district, and I don't even have kids! Paying huge taxes on vehicles owned, every year, even though you paid a TON of money in taxes when you bought the dang thing, is another gripe of mine. Just to drive a car, you got car payments, sales tax, personal property tax, plates, license, stickers and inspections every year.
Date: 1/27/2002 8:26:00 PM  From Authorid: 30229    mannnnnnn.... one of my 'sore spots'... we are taxed several times on things. Cars: we pay tax when we buy it, we pay tax every year for a liscense plate, we pay a HUGE tax on gasoline to put in it, we pay HUGE tax on the oil we put in it too... CARS ARE TAXED TO DEATH!!! Same with our homes, we pay tax when we purchase it and taxed every single year on it whether it is paid for or not... Alcohol and Cigarettes: There are so many hidden taxes on these things even BEFORE the purchase, and when purchased even MORE taxes added. And look at our pay checks... they get their TAX before we even SEE what we get... Grrrrrrr... If one were to take every single penny they have in a years time and add all this tax on (even sales taxes) I think people would absolutely croak at the percentage of money they are giving the gov't!!!!
Date: 1/27/2002 8:29:00 PM  From Authorid: 4614    Wow...Did I ever sound calm...lol...I totally agree...I complain about taxes all the time and for some reason didn't up there...To set the record straight, I hate them too lol
Date: 1/27/2002 8:33:00 PM  From Authorid: 24924    The WORST thing, to me, is the fact that people may scrip and save all their lives and when they die and want to leave it to their children, ESTATE TAX eats up a good portion. THAT IS ROBBERY! That money was taxed, taxed and taxed to death BEFORE!
Date: 1/27/2002 8:34:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 9130    Enki-- why are things so much more in Canada? I've always wondered that...
Date: 1/27/2002 8:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 11528    Hi Dizzy, They do this in Canada I wonder if they do it in the States. Say I buy a brand new car, I pay tax on it. A year later I sell it to someone else, they pay tax on it, two years after that they sell it to another person, the other person pays tax on it. Is it like that in the states? Enki
Date: 1/27/2002 8:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 47162    I say if those taxes go to pay for things like missles, and roads, and defense, and food safety inspection, and pay checks for our social servants. Then Yes! --r1
Date: 1/27/2002 8:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 11528    Problably because they know that we canadians are too chicken to go to Ottawa and throw them out on the street. We cant vote them out because all the political parties are pretty much the same up here. They have different names and policies but once in power they all do the same thing. Bye for now. Enki
Date: 1/27/2002 8:39:00 PM  From Authorid: 11528    Hahahhaha@ R1, Obviously You havent been in the work force for very long have You. Bye for now. Enki
Date: 1/27/2002 8:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 47162    Enki..well if they quit collecting taxes and the roads and military cease to exist. Don't come complainin to me! r1
Date: 1/27/2002 8:41:00 PM  From Authorid: 45551    even though they would get it another way i am sure, before roosevelt and his new deal it was unconsitutional to have a fedral income tax, and the first version was shot down in the supreme court, so they reworded it, and then it was only supposed to be for a certain amount of years, but the government kept it going.
Date: 1/27/2002 8:44:00 PM  From Authorid: 11528    R1, I understand that we have to pay some taxes but up here a persons total yearly tax bill is almost 55% which is ridiculous. By the way we have terrible roads and our militairy is a joke. Bye for now. Enki
Date: 1/27/2002 8:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 3263    I say no also...we already bought them once, why be continually taxed on something? I think it should only be taxable upon sale.
Date: 1/27/2002 8:45:00 PM  From Authorid: 45551    actually i think taxes should be collected on the state level and a certain percent should be given to the feds so they can operate.....the feds have over stepped thier boundries on many many fronts
Date: 1/27/2002 8:55:00 PM  From Authorid: 12341    I say HECK NO! Did you know that we work 5 months, at least, of every years just to pay all taxes, that is a hard to live with fact.
Date: 1/27/2002 9:22:00 PM  From Authorid: 22080    there are to many tax's like marriage tax i mean come on everything is taxed in our society soon there will be a breathing tax
Date: 1/28/2002 12:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 38474    ESTATE taxes, irritate me the most, it is just ridiculous that when you inherit something the government has to get it's blood money or you lose your inheritance. I have seen many news shows and documentaries on people losing their family farms due to the inheritance tax. LUDICROUS!!! In Ohio, our schools are funded primarily by personal property taxes, I think it is totally IGNORANT. Believe it or not many people do not have children, WHY should they pay for the education of other's children who do not own personal property and do not even pay the personal property tax? This has been an ongoing argument in Ohio and this policy is supposed to be changed HOWEVER it has been at least 3 years since the search for a solution has started and no one seems to know a solution that will pass. Well gee, here is an easy one RAISE our sales tax by 1/2 a cent and use that money for the schools. It is a little more fair at least, EVERYONE will be paying to fund our schools, even childless people but at least it is NOT just the homeowners and landowners footing the bill........
Date: 1/28/2002 4:40:00 AM  From Authorid: 27360    It is obvious that we need taxes because it provides a revenue for the government to take care of us.....<<<<that was sarcasasm
Date: 1/28/2002 5:36:00 AM  From Authorid: 27414    Nooooooo!!!
Date: 1/28/2002 5:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 33817    No, and the reason I think we even have silly excise taxes is that people think they're taxes on the rich, when in reality, they are truly taxes on the middle class. As usual.
Date: 1/28/2002 8:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 37354    Users should pay for the services...tax children. Hugo
Date: 1/28/2002 8:48:00 AM  From Authorid: 37354    Canadians pay more taxes because they have more social benefits..i.e. universal health care. Everybody hates taxes, what people must realize is in order to lower taxes you must eliminate government programs. Hugo
Date: 1/28/2002 8:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 37354    It is false to state only homeowners and landowners foot the bill. Renters pay a rental rate in a monopolistic competitive environment(typical of housing) based on the costs to the owner of owning the property and a fair return on investment. Since many jurisdictions have a homestead exemption for homeowners, renters actually pay a higher percentage of their housing costs in property taxes than owners. Hugo
Date: 1/28/2002 11:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 27678    You know, DM, God only asks for 10%, once a year, and the government gets to ask for more? Gee, talk about rendering unto Ceasar! And no, we should not be taxed on goods we already own.
Date: 1/28/2002 2:17:00 PM  From Authorid: 15998    Say we don't get taxed.... where do you think the money for schools and hospitals and emergency funds come from? TAXES!! Not nearly enough taxes would be generated to pay for this and more if we do not pay enough taxes.
