car salesmen... arrrg!!

I turned 18 the 23rd, so as my birthday/graduation present, my mom was going to buy me a car. Well, we just started looking and yesterday we go to the first lot to see what they have, and the guy shows us this cute little car. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for but I did like it and the guy talked it up enough so that I was really considering it. Well, my mom told him we were just looking and he asked if he made us a very sweet deal what it would take to get us to leave the lot with that car. My mom told him straight up that my grandpa needed to look at it and make sure it was a good buy. So the guy says ok, we'll let you take it home until Monday and if your grandpa doesn't aprove, you bring it back. It sounded like a good idea to me! So we said yes and we took the car home. We completed all the paper work there and the salesmen said that if my grandpa didn't approve, we'd return the car and they'd void the paperwork. After discussing the situation, me and my family decided I should look around more... the salesman had just talked us into this car that I really didn't want. On top of that, my grandpa didn't approve of the type of car but keep in mind that he's no mechanic so he didn't really look at that stuff.

Well, after school today we drove the car back to the dealership and they said they wouldn't take the car back because there was nothing wrong with it mechanically, which is what they 'assumed' my grandpa was going to check. Therefore, since he found nothing mechanically wrong with the car, we could not return it. Now this made us really mad, because the only way we left that lot was with the guarantee that we could return it with my grandpa's disapproval. There was a lot of arguing and loose ends on their part and eventually they voided all the paperwork and took the car back free of charge when we threatened legal action. The salesman was very rude and he showed us this tiny print on the back of one agreement stating that verbal promises are not valid.

I just can't believe that some people can be so untrustworthy and fake to everyone... and that they can lie so openly and get away with it. All I know, is I am never going back to this dealership again.

Have any of you ever had any bad experiences like this? It makes me sick people can be like this!

Date: 1/25/2002 8:36:00 PM  From Authorid: 40359    You can 'test' cars for a day or so without signing any paper work. That is where you messed up. You should've just asked for a two day permission pass. Sorry..
