She smuggled it out of the bathroom and stashed it under her pillow (her favorite hiding place!) until after I kissed her goodnight and closed the door. I usually check under the pillow while tucking her in, but I must have forgotten tonight....
After about 10 minutes, I heard a small little voice... "Mommy, can you open my door for just a minute, please?"
I went to open the door and was smacked in the face by the overpowering aroma.
She stands in the doorway, with her puppy dog eyes and says, "I couldn't help myself....." and scoots around me to the bathroom.
She stands at the sink trying to scrub it off... but it won't go away! "It's all sticky! I need soap!", she says with a hint of panic in her voice.
I tell her that soap won't work... she's going to have to wait until it all wears off.
"But it's all sticky! I don't like how it feels!" (she's getting mad now...)
"It won't be sticky when it's dry," I tell her.
I ask her why the doll she got for Christmas has a red face and "What's that smell in your room?"
Again, I get, "I just couldn't help myself."
"Riley," I say, "this is the 4th time that you have snuck nail polish into your bedroom," (by this time, I'm starting to feel a little high from the fumes) "and painted all over things and spilled entire bottles. I think you need to spend the day in your room tomorrow... all day. And you have to go to school with your hands entirely pink until the nail polish wears off of them." (It looks like she's wearing pink gloves! LOL)
Too cruel? or creative parenting? LOL
