Separation of Church and State...a good idea?...TORO

It seems that there is no seperation of church and state, religion or government in California. Well as long as the religion is Islam.

According to an article in newsmax seventh graders in Byron California are~ " forced to learn the tenets of Islam, adopt a Muslim name, wear a robe and even stage their won jihad"~ Using the textbook "Across the Centuries" Islam is shown in a totally positive manner, yet at the same time Christianity is depicted negatively. Students are to~"pretend that they are Muslims, wear Muslim clothing and stage their own jihad via a dice game"~

Now here is the problem, Can this be viewed promoting a religion by a state run institution which is to my understanding against the law. Is this a good example is to why their should be seperation of church and state? Should also Christians now understand that bringing religion into the classroom will cause schools to lose focus in teaching kids the basics, reading writing, ect.

Thank you for reading

The government if won't allow one, should ban them all! Isn't that sort of fraternizing with the enemy? I know Islam isn't why Sept. 11th happened but according to bin ladin it was. Oh My!
Date: 1/15/2002 7:12:00 AM  From Authorid: 47539    I think it's a wonderful idea to teach about other cultures, but this is ridiculous. They need to teach about ALL other cultures. I bet they don't teach asian culture or hispanic. I was a little miffed when my son came home at Chistmas (Sorry - Winter Break) with his project outlining all the other religious practices of the season, including Ramadan, Chanukah and a few others I'd never heard of, but no Christmas at all. Why should Christianity be ignored like it isn't worth mentioning? (Yeah, I know, they assume all the kids already know this, but it still isn't fair.) I'd be at the school board in an instant over this one!

I feel there would be less relegious hatred if we all learned and had some understanding of other relegions, instead of mis-understanding.

That's what happens when the pendulum of political correctness swings to far. It's time to put a stop to this madness.

Date: 1/15/2002 8:16:00 AM  From Authorid: 46014    if you want school and religion to go together then enroll your kids in a private school. I dont' believe that religion should enter at all in the school curriculum. Religion should be taught at church and homes. I always thougt it unfair during school when we would do Xmas arts and crafts, while the jehova's witness kids watched. Why must public schools assume all are christians when there are so many other beliefs!?
