Hi everyone, my boyfriend is about to have brain surgery. he has a cancerous tumor on the surface of his brain.. he's very scared that he may become paralyzed or a different person... do any of you know if these are common risks of brain surgery? i would love to hear any stories that you may have of anyone you know or yourself going through it.

Date: 1/10/2002 9:57:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    What have the Doctors told him? My brother-n-law had brain surgery and it did change him somewhat..he was always prone to depression before hand, but since the surgery he has not been able to shake the depression. The outcome for everyone is different though, it depends on what part of the brain they will be operating on, I belive it is the frontal lobe that deals with personality and moods...I think he should talk to his docs about his concerns to get a better Idea of what to expect...Kelly
Date: 1/10/2002 9:59:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 34758    yeah, he is going to the docs tomorrow... tomorrow just seems like FOREVER and he's really emotionally messed up right now and i would like to try to put his mind at ease. i'm not real sure what part of the brain his tumor is on... this is really scary.
Date: 1/10/2002 10:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 15228    I can only imagine how scared he must be. Why don't you sit down with him and help him make out a list of questions he would like to ask...Doctors can be intimidating and having a list ready will help your boyfriend remember what he wants to know. I do this when i go to the Neurologist who is very intimidating (and snooty)...The trick is not to let the docs brush off the questions...Kelly
