This is so STUPID!!!

I live in Arizona and all of the family from my mom's side live in Missouri. We don't get to visit that often, in fact we don't visit at all. The only way we keep in touch is by phone. My mother has kinda made it a tradition to call my grandma one sunday a month and get the 411 on how the family is doing. Today when she called, grandma seemed to be a little uneasy. She told my mother that they kicked my cousin out of school and told her, "Don't come back." She just turned 16 last month and she is a sweetheart! This was quite a shock! But what is really stupid about it is they kicked her out for dying her hair too much! OMG! The school board said she wasn't living up to the dress code. She goes to a public school and she gets good grades. I don't see what the problem is. She is just expressing herself. And she has good parents. If her parents allow her to do this, then I think it's alright. I think that this has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard. What do you guys think?

Date: 12/31/2001 12:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 31255    LOL my step dad got kicked out of high school for having his hair too long. People need to get with the times and just relax over the hair deal. I mean it isn't hurting anyone and it's not distracting anyone from learning. If anything it is teaching kids to be an individual and not be afraid to be themselves.
Date: 12/31/2001 12:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 26452    your right! that is very stupid! i've never knoen dieing your hair too much to be aginst school rules!
Date: 12/31/2001 12:22:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36635    That's the stupid thing about it Moon. It's not against the rules. They kicked her out because they didn't "like" it.
Date: 12/31/2001 12:22:00 AM  From Authorid: 13546    Okay, now that is one of the most.. insane things I have ever heard, kicking her out of school for dying her HAIR too much? Now that is so ridiculious. *shakes head* THEY have no right to go and do that... I mean.. one of my friends has BLUE hair.. permanent.. and she hasn't gotten ANY grief yeesh! I do not understand people sometimes!
Date: 12/31/2001 12:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 18516    That's ridiculous (sp?) kicked out b/c she dyed her hair..
Date: 12/31/2001 12:25:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36635    I want blue hair!!! But blue dye won't show up on my hair because it's already dark.
Date: 12/31/2001 12:25:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36635    You're so right Toodles. She was just expressing herself and then people do this. Sad ain't it
Date: 12/31/2001 12:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 46704    Yep, very stupid! Someone's hair color has nothing to do school... some of the people on the school board really need to get a life and concentrate on more important matters!! Cloudfire
Date: 12/31/2001 12:26:00 AM  From Authorid: 26452    Emily, she should cmplain to the board of education, thats not right!
Date: 12/31/2001 12:27:00 AM  From Authorid: 13897    wow..this is insane...dont we have a law about freedom of expression?!?! i know in the South they are much more rigid about that sort of thing..up here in the NorthWest, nobody cares if you dye your hair...i'm sorry you have to deal with this...but hey, as the trite saying goes "life isn't fair"...heh...doesn't that just piss you off when people say that? LOL!!! it does to me...sooooo i hope you dont hate me after this. =) well just hang in there...i'm sure things will work out if you think positive!! =)
Date: 12/31/2001 12:30:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36635    Moon, I don't think she wants to deal with those people after this. But she is taking classes else where. She even progressed to a higher grade level so she's better off without them.
Date: 12/31/2001 12:32:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 36635    "Life isn't fair" I hear it everyday! lol
Date: 12/31/2001 12:38:00 AM  From Authorid: 14258    you are so right that is stupid it is totaly backwards to what they tell us to do "expres your self" but everytime we do they backlash and are all like grrrrr and suspend us it's bull

Date: 12/31/2001 12:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 14258    last year i dyed my hair and they tried to kick me out i fought so bad and now they wont even talk to me for what i do to my hair you gotta stand up to them thats what they are afraid of once student stand up and take a stand they will lay off but it's gotta be ajoint efort if u understand what i'm saying
Date: 12/31/2001 12:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 36352    I would contact a lawyer and see what my legal rights where. That is such bs! My sister was having a really hard time in school and she got put in alternitive school. The one here focus's on teaching and not on all the nit picking, like dress codes and sliping with a cuss word or smoking on grounds. With all the nagging gone she enjoys school and makes straight A's now. If they would stop nit picking and using any little excuse they can Not to do their jobs the drop out rate in schools may not be so high!
Date: 12/31/2001 12:48:00 AM  From Authorid: 26452    Emily,i dunno if you remember this, but a few years ago (in arizona,it was in the news)and this 1 guy died his hair blue & they school MADE him shave it & then his whole faimly came the next day with their hair died blue.just kinda reminded me of this, stupid schools.
Date: 12/31/2001 12:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 20778    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO thats soo stupid! I would be suspended all my life and grow up illerate! Id fight if i were her...
Date: 12/31/2001 1:23:00 AM  From Authorid: 43498    oh well... thats life
Date: 12/31/2001 4:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 33517    That is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Wow, I can't believe it.. If it is ok with the parents and she does get good grades than it should not matter how many times she dye's her hair.....Luv ya!!

Date: 12/31/2001 5:05:00 AM  From Authorid: 8278    ok, that is probably the stupidest thing i have ever heard!!when i wasin high school, i took cosmotology and was the classroom guiny pig (sp) i had my hair a different color every week. isn't there any way her parents can fight this? when i went to high school, if they kicked kids out of my school for dying their hair too much, half of my school would have been gone. people should have the right to do anything they want to their hair as long as her parents say it is alright. as long as it doesn't interfere with her learning or the learning of others...it should be of no concern to the teachers.
Date: 12/31/2001 5:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 44952    If that happened @ my school, there wouldnt have any students left lol! that is so stupid, im sure your aunty can do something, about it though! Love Reagen xxxx
Date: 12/31/2001 6:44:00 AM  From Authorid: 10245    my mom almost got kicked out of school for cutting her hair short... this was back in the 50's at a Catholic high school. The nuns were ticked off at her and asked her "What does your mother have to say about this?" mom replied, "Why don't you ask her...she's the one that cut it!" it shut up the nuns and mom got to stay... but they were none too pleased when all the girls started showing up with D.A.s (heehee) This IS really stupid...
Date: 12/31/2001 6:45:00 AM  From Authorid: 4548    lol when i graduated they refused to put one of my classmate's pictures in the yearbook because he had a six inch mohawk dyed red, and a leather jacket complete with studs and stickers. lol, people protested but it didn't do any good. schools are the most conformist institutions around.
Date: 12/31/2001 6:50:00 AM  From Authorid: 31837    Well, I think that pretty soon, schools won't get away with such behavior. If it is a type of dress code, though, and they warned her not to do it anymore (it might have been distracting), but she did it anyway, they might have been justified... Maybe they should have helped her through it, instead of treating her like an outcast, and giving her the ol' kick in the arse just for being different. Good luck to her.
Date: 12/31/2001 7:13:00 AM  From Authorid: 19382    rediculous is what it is.
Date: 12/31/2001 7:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 47235    Yes that is stupid. I went to high school with a guy that had green hair one day and pink the next!!! If your cousin gets good grades then I don't see the problem. I could see if she was a bully or a problem student. Maybe she can fight this ridiculous thing. Best of luck and Happy New Year. 'Razzles'
Date: 12/31/2001 7:43:00 AM  From Authorid: 5252    wow!!!...hrm...that is kinda awkward...i don't know...like they gave this one gurl ISS for having pink hair...but i had dyed myne and it was almost purple...they didnt say a thing...i dont know...that's just how some schools are tho
Date: 12/31/2001 8:01:00 AM  From Authorid: 24845    That's pretty stupid, but sometimes school administrators and such do stupid stuff. I agree with you on what the parents say is ok, should go but it seems the "system" is taking a lot of control over the parents children. I don't like it but what can we do? Not much other than fight back. Good Luck.
Date: 12/31/2001 9:20:00 AM  From Authorid: 43692    VERY STUPID INDEED! +[JenTheLonely]+
Date: 12/31/2001 3:58:00 PM  From Authorid: 8941    I think it is stupid, and that the school system should think about the future they are leading us into. Kicking someone out of school who has no prior history of problems over something as idiotic as hair color....all I can say is that it is stupid.
