The Holidays
time to spend with loved ones
a time of rememberance
celebrate with joy
embracing all that is good
it used to be so warm
I remember all those times
moments with my family
feasts of every kind
now it's all so sad
I try to make it better
but I feel guilty enjoying myself
when so many must suffer
impossible to reach every one
what is there to do
the world is in turmoil
people dying in pain
I'm grateful for my freedom and security
but it all seems so vain
after many days of thinking
there is only one thing to do
reach out, if only to one person
who is less fortunate than you
make a difference, even if small
it will do more than you know
for the true meaning of the holidays
is not only to be thankful in our thoughts and prayers
but to save, if only one, from despair
so before you begin to enjoy your holiday
please remember what I say
no matter what your religion
no matter what your belief
we all have a reponsibility to help one another
volunteer at a shelter
or take food to the streets
offer a blanket to someone homeless
visit a nursing home
anything will do
just please think of those less fortunate than you...
