Darkened Shelf...by StormTracker5

Hung upon the door was a sign blowing in the wind
Emblazoned on the banner was, "Welcome" and "Come On In"
It didn't look busy, just rather empty inside
I wondered exactly what I would find

I shrugged my shoulders and walked right in
Dust and cobwebs galore and lights that were quite dim
Then I wondered who would come to such a dismal place
When it hit me, I felt the shock spread cross my face

I've been to this place many times before
It hit me with the sound of the closing door
I wandered further in through the musty air
In search of what I knew could be found there

What I was after wasn't where it used to be
In this poorly lit place it was difficult to see
It seems like yesterday that this place was warm and bright
Now it's as if someone is slowly dimming the lights

Never-the-less I knew what I was here for
I lowered myself to one knee upon the floor
There it was tucked way in the back of the shelf
Alone in the shadows, quitely sitting by itself

I slowly stood again in that musty air
Clutched in the "hands" of my heart...Dispair

Date: 12/20/2001 9:24:00 AM  From Authorid: 19435    A moving piece this was Stormtracker5, and as I re-read it again, a tugging came upon my heart, so much it tells, sad yet a beautiful demonstration of feelings within.. As always, I am in awe of your abilities to make penned words so vividly come to life or touch emotions held within as if your hand was outstretched and actually gripping them..
