Who's Ball is It?..........TORO

I guess first I have to give you a little background about the issue. When Barry Bonds hit his 73rd homerun of the season, Alex Popov caught the ball in his glove but lost it when he was knocked over by those around him. Patrick Hayashi was also knocked down in the melee but managed to grab the ball. Now Popov is suing Hayahi for the ownership of the ball (I imagine it will bring a pretty penny in a auction).

Who's Ball is it?

My Take on the Issue....

It is Hayashis ball. Now growing up we used to go to the local baseball games and chase foul balls and homeruns for the simple reward of a snowcone. We used to knock each other down and tackle each other trying to get to the ball. hey, those were some good snowcones. Anyways the rule was the ball wasn't yours until you had full control of the ball. So you see it is Hayashis ball.

Now my advice to Popov. what were you thinking? Every experienced foul/homerun ball getter knows that you are supposed to use TWO hands then in one motion bring it quickly to your mid-section and hold on for dear life. Take it from a guy that ate his share of snowcones, If you would have used that technique you would be the owner of the million dollar ball.

Date: 12/4/2001 10:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    Popov had first shot at it but couldn't hang on. The eventual owner of the ball was proven not to be the one who hit Popov. If he wants to sue someone he should find the guy who knocked him down in the first place. Even then it's eveyone for themselves in these situations. But of course you can always find a lawyer willing to sue someone.
Date: 12/4/2001 10:30:00 AM  From Authorid: 15157    Its Hays Ball if it were truly Pops ball he would have caught it correctly........;~D
Date: 12/4/2001 10:31:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 27360    Love baseball and Cherry snowcones....I tell you if it wasnt for those foulballs I dont know what I would have done as a kid. And it also helped that you knew who hit a lot of foulballs during summerball...Toro

Date: 12/4/2001 10:33:00 AM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 27360    BCAR's tag is making my eyes hurt. I think I will sue him...
Date: 12/4/2001 10:46:00 AM  From Authorid: 15157    El Toro you didn`t acknowledge me so I`m gonna sue!!!!!!LOL!!!!!!!!
Date: 12/4/2001 10:49:00 AM  From Authorid: 3648    Anyone knows in the game of baseball it's who has control of the ball once the excitement is over that is the rightful owner of catching the ball....so Patrick Haysashi is the owner.....but heck really I think Barry Bonds should be given the ball.....jmo there.....
Date: 12/4/2001 10:54:00 AM  From Authorid: 13283    The ball belongs to Hayahi ! I had a homerun ball (for one second ) , hit by a Texas Ranger at the old Arlington Stadium . Even though i had the ball first completely inside my hand , and old fellow (60 years old ) used two hands and planted his feet hard , and yanked the ball out of my hand . He won it fare and square ! Instead of getting mad i congratulated him ! Raz aka
Date: 12/4/2001 10:58:00 AM  From Authorid: 35114    I'd have to say it sucks to be Popov, but I'd say it's Hayashi's ball too. I agree with you once you've got it, hang on to it! *bites into a snowcone* ^_^
Date: 12/4/2001 11:00:00 AM  From Authorid: 35114    lmao@ el toro Hey you should be a lawyer. ^_^; j/k
Date: 12/4/2001 11:11:00 AM  From Authorid: 24856    Well, I don't know, but to sue for something as ownership to a ball???? It is only as valuable as the next record breaker....and the way I see it, it will be broken soon anyway.
Date: 12/4/2001 11:31:00 AM  From Authorid: 43267    Umm, i aggree.
Date: 12/4/2001 11:42:00 AM  From Authorid: 23610    Well....let's say the batter hits a pop fly....only it bounces out of the guys glove when he attempts to catch it. Is it considered an out? No way....the guy lost the ball....it's no good. So, it's the same situation here....the guy lost the ball....it was a bad catch and someone else got it. Besides....isn't possession nine tenths of the law? LOL.
Date: 12/4/2001 11:52:00 AM  From Authorid: 2030    He He Royaluzi got robbed by a 60 year old man. He He. I think that's humerous, note I said "think" so it's only an opinion not fact. You can't sue me for libel.
Date: 12/4/2001 11:53:00 AM  From Authorid: 27678    Toro, I hate Gladiator Games, so I gotta pass on this debate. Hugs. Free Girl
Date: 12/4/2001 12:15:00 PM  From Authorid: 8941    From what I've seen of this, and I don't watch much baseball, I would have to say it was the guy's who caught it and was able to keep it. I just thought it was part of it for several people to get their hands on it and lose it anyway...luck of the draw. It really gets on my nerves how people will sue over anything now. Most people would have been dissapointed, but kept it in perspective.
Date: 12/4/2001 12:30:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 27360    Kiki,Kiki,Kiki,Kiki, great response. There now you cant sue me,,,lol...TORO
Date: 12/4/2001 12:34:00 PM  ( From Author ) From Authorid: 27360    Thanks people for the replies. I see everyone is in complete agreement so we shall consider this debate closed, But before you go I need to get some of yalls names, so when I sue BCAR I have a better chance of winning.....TORO
Date: 12/4/2001 12:43:00 PM  From Authorid: 30229    yep, yep, yep... I do agree!! I have seen the fans going nuts in the stands going after a ball, lol... I think it is Hayashis ball too... poor Popov though
Date: 12/4/2001 1:38:00 PM  From Authorid: 35705    their all my balls! lol...luv ya,
Date: 12/4/2001 3:12:00 PM  From Authorid: 5940    Had this been an "ordinary" baseball, hit foul or as a homerun, this issue would'nt have come up. Most likely when this goes to court, I would imagine the outcome to be "Possesion is 9/10ths the law". But who knows? The judge may decide the way King Solomon did in biblical times, threaten to cut the ball in half, and give each their share.
Date: 12/5/2001 12:03:00 AM  From Authorid: 38474    I also think it is Hayashis ball. If Popov would have caught it correctly maybe he wouldn't have lost it. Just another frivalous lawsuit...........
Date: 12/5/2001 4:25:00 AM  From Authorid: 20190    The record might be broken soon, but
it's STILL a million dollar ball.
Date: 12/5/2001 4:28:00 AM  From Authorid: 20190    If they rule that the ball goes to Popov
will NFL receivers start crying it's theirs
every time they get stripped for an interception?
