We've all done it at one time or another...and if we haven't, then we will. |

I agree with you completely. The only time I see a reason for cutting and pasting is to solidify your point. Just like we take quotes from reliable sources and use MLA format/a bibliography to support our arguements - it has a place here also. In fact, that added documented support from reputable sources only serve to make your point stronger. However, if you're completely cutting and pasting and passing the work off as your own - that is wrong! It is called plagarism and its illegal. Well said Toro... cheers, |

I totally agree, Toro. I read MANY different magazines and newspapers. I have never copied and pasted anything on here. IF certain portions of a news item is posted, but WITHIN the author's OWN words, THEIR OWN text, I have no problem with that. ALSO, whenever someone just copies THOSE PORTIONS WHICH ARE BIASED TOWARDS whatever THEIR views are; or in other words: ONLY HALF of the story. When whole parts are missing, the reader is very often led down the wrong path or conclusion. Like Paul Harvey's examples, where he will read or tell a story, and you really see it, get a picture of exactly how it IS....(you THINK!) and THEN........he goes on to FINISH the story, then says: "And now you know the REST of the story". By him telling the REST of the story, YOUR OPINION is totally changed from what it was BEFORE he added that: REST OF THE STORY. Just the other day, someone was telling a story on some incident in Palestine, and how some innocent kids were killed by Israeli's. The way it was presented, one would think "Those horrible murderers!" but what was not mentioned, is IT GOES BOTH WAYS. One could dig up a mountain of stories like that with the exception being that now it is the Palestinians that killed the Israeli's. I like BOTH SIDES OF A STORY. And, I want NON-BIASED reporting. Please, if anyone is gonna copy and paste.......DO YOUR OWN STORY, your own words. Thanks, Toro. |

Well Etox I dont believe I have ever done it. I have like Maj..puts it done portions of a story to emphasize a point but have never just pasted something that didnt belong to me...and Like Royaluzi said it is about someones initiative. If they dont feel strong enough about something to write in their own words then why should I care to read it.....I think I know what story your talking about THINKER, It had something to do with labeling Isreal as terrorist. All it was, was a pasted news item, The poster negleted to paste where Palestinian school books do not mention the existence of Isreal. You would think if someone was truly interested in co-existing they would teach youngsters about it......TORO |

OK toro, the reason I use cut and pasted WHOLE articles from the news, is because many, many times the article is what I want to debate about. I'm sorry if some of you don't like that, but I'm not changing a thing. I never pick out what I want from an article, and I always use the url to accompany the story for verification for those doubting Thomas'. Maybe I do post stories that reflect my own point of view, but whose point of view should I post? The Thinker's? Seems to me that this really is nitpicking, cause there are no rules about it in the FAQ. Sorry if I don't present both sides, like the Israeli story, but how can you do that in one post? Seems to me that if this is unacceptable to some, then maybe they shouldn't read those posts. Sounds like a reasonable thing to do, IMHO. Free Girl |

Oh, and in regard to the Israeli story, there are many stories about the atrocities of the suicide bombers, and just because Israel is a recognized government, instead of a people without a country, like Palestine, doesn't mean that Israel atrocities like the one in the story I posted, should be overlooked. Sounds like you and the Thinker are actually the ones with the agenda here, in regard to that issue. FG |

freegirl. No one is asking you to change. I am just saying that I prefer people to say it for themselves instead of allowing a pundit or a journalist to do it for them....I have the same peeve when someone tries to read something to me, I usually tell them that I learned to read a long time ago,....TORO |
