In Australia next month it will be against the law to smoke anywhere in public(i.e. footpaths, parks etc) Is it just me or are smokers now being victimized.kurtvedder. |

I am OUTRAGED at that! I am a smoker, and if some one ever tried to tell me I cant smoke in my own home I would slam the door on them! That is taking political power too far! I would start a demenstation on the county bldgs. front lawn over something like that if it happened in my area.--Monte |

This "law" is just plain IGNORANT. I am a smoker (yea I started again), and if ANYONE tried to say I couldn't smoke in my own home I would just blow smoke right in their face. THAT IS RIDICULOUS. I think smokers are being discrimintated against. I can understand banning it in restaurants, NOT that I like it but I can understand it. I cannot understand banning it in a persons own home. I don't smoke while I am on duty, in a patrol car or in our dept. I do smoke in my day room at my home and outdoors. If they try to regulate that around here I will PROTEST big time. Great informative post Toro, hugs............... |

Thanx for the replies...I dont smoke but I have always believed that a persons home is just that...THEIR HOME....I got this story from the Washington Post website under their METRO link.....The excuse the council makes is that tabacco smoke is a pollutant and that you cant pollute your neigbors air....Now to me that is stretching it a bit.....TORO |

That sure leaves the door open for nasty neighbors to report someone they dont like!!! Plants and Industry hurt our air far more than any smoker can, and no one seems to mind that, but you let a smoker light up in the wrong place they are ready to call the law... WHAT is wrong with this picture???? lol |

Well I don't know any smokers that are not considerate of non smokers when they smoke. And I think that this law in this county is going alittle to far...Ya know if you really sit and think about it, it's really kind of spookie at what might happen if they do away with smoking all together...I mean what would come next ? Well their not taking my hair spray away from me because of the ozone layer... |

I don't have any problem with people smoking in their own home. It does bother me to see them do that when they have kids in the house. In that case they really should go outside. |

Gail makes a great point, industry creates FAR MORE pollutants than smokers, I don't see them cracking down on the factories though. I personally know one of the biggest factories in my area that bury their toxic waste in a field, RIGHT OUTSIDE THE PLANT. My uncle in law is a supervisor there. The city doesn't do anything about it because of the revenue from the TAXES.... |

I do not let anyone smoke in my hoem but my friends all of them smoke in their home and it dosesnt bother me that much but it does bother my kids so-- I just dont bring them. When I band smoke from my home I had to bleach every wall and get the smell out- it was so nasty!! Now the only thing that bothers me is having the cigerrette butts all over the yard.. lol, lol. Well, now those of us that don't smoke don't have to feel as though we do, and we don't have to sit back and watch as others commit suicide with the nasty buggers. |

I smoke in my day room (front porch) or my home office. My daughter has allergies and I smoke in the rooms she is not allowed in. I NEVER just light up in anyone's home or car, I always ask for persmission first. Most of the smokers I know are considerate like that............ |

accidnetly hit the enter key, I wasn't done...I was going to say there is such a thing as privacy. I could never say okay to fining someone smoking in the privacy of their own home. How the heck could that effect others? Dumb. |

Geez put "smoking" in the title and the room gets crowded with replies. I agree that some smokers are considerate and the ones that arent you can usually let them know by a few well-placed coughs that it is bothering you...TORO |
